Five Democratic candidates for mayor of New York spent Saturday night sleeping in public housing in Harlem as part of their pre-election propaganda campaign.
City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, City Comptroller John Liu, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, former Comptroller Bill Thompson and former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, the five propagandists, brought sleeping bags, pillows and flowers for their hosts. There is no word on whether or not Weiner texted during his sleepover.
As expected, everyone but Liu said it was awful and conditions were deplorable with mold on the ceiling. Are the residents helpless? They can’t get a scrub brush and bleach and clean it up? Some don’t have air conditioning, which they view as an entitlement. Most people view A/C as a luxury item.
The candidates called for the firing of housing authority Chairman John Rhea who is respected by Mayor Bloomberg. They apparently heard there was a backlog of repairs and that, along with their overnight stay, was enough for them to call for Rhea’s head.
Afua Atta-Mensah of the Urban Justice Center spearheaded the event with Community Voices Heard and the National Action Network in the hope that the candidates will remember it when they set policy.
New York City is a one-party city – it’s far-left. Whoever wins will do exactly what is demanded of them and money will be no object as they tap the taxpayers to feather their own political nests.
