Seven Climate Myths From the Flat-Earth Society to Climate-Crazed Barack Obama

Flat-Earth Society to Obama: your global warming theories don’t wash.

Investors Business Daily posted three climate change facts and studies that the masses will never see or hear about so I’ll start with those and conclude with a few other important ones.

Myth One: 97% of Scientists Agree

You have all heard about the 97% of scientists who believe in global warming. Well, that’s not true. A peer-reviewed paper found that only 36% of 1,077 geoscientists and engineers surveyed believe in the man-made global warming crisis as defined by the UN’s Kyoto model.

Anything the UN – the dictators’ club – does is a lie.

The Kyoto position dictates “the strong belief that climate change is happening, that it is not a normal cycle of nature, and humans are the main or central cause.”

Truly, 36% is not 97%.

In his book, A Disgrace to the Profession, Mark Steyn takes this lie apart.

…the “97 per cent” nonsense is taken apart on page 295 of my book. It means 75 out of 77 more or less hand-picked scientists. So the “97 per cent consensus” is in fact a smaller number of scientists than the more than 120 I cite in my book, all of whom cheerfully put the boot in to Big Climate’s poster child, the hockey stick.

Myth Two: Greenland Is a Melting Disaster

Greenland did lose 9,000 billion tons of ice. Greenland is the demarcator for the climate extremists. Turns out that they retained 99.7% of ice max throughout the 20th century which when spread out over 1.7 million square kilometers of ice surface comes to a sheet five meters thick on an island where the average thickness is about 1,500 meters. That information came from “Watts Up With That.”

Myth Three: Climate Models Can Predict the Future

The last fact from IBD came from the Cato Institute who confirmed that climate models that warn of warming have been wrong for decades. Since the entire global warming theory is built only around climate models, this is important to know.

“If the known climate behavior cannot be well-captured by the models,” they say, “no case can be made for the veracity of projections, from the same models, of the future evolution of our climate.”

It doesn’t stop there.

Myth Four: The Poles Are Melting

Using satellite photography, it has been possible to accurately monitor the arctic ice at both poles. Ice grows in the winter and retreats in the summer at the North Pole. It’s not melting – look for yourself on this link. Antarctica is not melting either.

Myth Five: We’ve Never Seen Warming Like This Before

Until the 1990s there were many, many references in scientific and historical literature to a period labelled the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) lasting from about AD 800–1300. It was followed by a much cooler period termed the Little Ice Age. In order to promote the narrative, the climate alarmists had to get rid of the Medieval warming period. Along came the hockey stick theory of Michael Mann.

Using tree rings as a basis for assessing past temperature changes back to the year 1,000 AD, supplemented by other proxies from more recent centuries, Mann completely redrew climate history, turning the Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age into non-events. No one challenged it and it was used to base the entire current day vision of global warming.

Along came retired mineralogist Steve McIntyre who linked up with Ross McKitrick a Canadian economist to review the Mann data which he struggled to get from him. They found an enormous error, a huge statistical error blending unlike data to form a conclusion. What Mann’s bizarre statistical techniques did was to select data that had any sort of Hockey Stick shape and hugely increase its weight in the averaging process. Using Mann’s technique it meant that any data was almost certain to produce a spurious Hockey Stick shape.

Mann’s data was a disgrace to the profession but nothing changed. The alarmists act as if it was irrelevant.

It may be surprising to learn that all the hottest temperatures ever recorded in modern times were recorded decades ago before global warming was supposed to have started. What were people doing in 1889 and 1922 to cause such disruption???

Myth Six: Climate Alarmists Have Thought of Everything, The Science Is Decided

The effects of clouds on temperature are an order of magnitude greater than the effects of CO2 and yet there is no functional model of the global cloud system and this means that all the climate models essentially insert guesses into their calculations as to what CO2 warming will do to clouds, A Skeptical Mind reported.

Myth Seven: Reports of Our Demise Are Greatly Exaggerated

The reports of disaster just haven’t happened. There are no fish swimming in the streets of Miami, there is snow in the winter, and global warming didn’t raise average annual temperatures nationwide two degrees by 2010.

Here is one good example. We all know Britain has plenty of snow and ice but in 2000, the media helped the alarmists along as they always do and predicted snow would become a rare event.

Oopsy. These weather extremists can’t even predict the weather tomorrow or the next hurricane, but they think their computers are going to predict weather a hundred years from now. They had some of the worst snow and ice in 2010.

The climate alarmists can’t predict the weather and they don’t have a clue as to what is going to happen a hundred years from now. It’s all guesswork based on computer models.

  1. The idea of using computer models is to seduce people into thinking that a super clever and accurate computer must be spot on in it’s predictions. This is pure smoke and mirrors because a computer is only an electronic calculating and memorizing machine. It cannot think or find it’s own data. It has to be fed everything and told what to do with it. Hence the rubbish in, rubbish out phenomenon.

  2. The biggest contributor of Carbon Dioxide is natural and not man made. One of the largest sources of atmospheric carbon dioxide is through plant and animal decay as microorganisms break down the dead material, releasing carbon dioxide into the air as part of the process. Other naturally occurring sources include forest fires and volcanoes. Our industrial contribution is very small and insignificant. What CO2 greatly enhances plant growth. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the principal gas that trees and other plants need to survive, just like oxygen (O2) is the principal gas that humans and other animals require. Trees absorb CO2 and release O2 — animals inhale O2 and exhale CO2. Earth’s first, primitive forests made their prolific debut 300 million years ago during the Carboniferous Period. Before then, the atmosphere held far more CO2 but concentrations declined throughout the Carboniferous Period as plants flourished. During the Carboniferous Period the atmosphere became greatly depleted of CO2 (declining from about 2500 ppm to 350 ppm) so that by the end of the Carboniferous the CO2-impoverished atmosphere was less favorable to plant life and plant growth slowed dramatically. Today, CO2 concentrations are barely at 380 ppm — still CO2-impoverished. Many scientists strongly believe that we should be trying to produce more CO2, not less. And for good reason.
“Carbon is the building block for all life on earth. It provides all of the food and most the energy for the human race. Carbon dioxide is a tiny part of the atmosphere, yet it sustains all life on earth. It is NOT a pollutant. To be anti-carbon is to be anti-life and anti-human”. – Viv Forbes, Pasture Manager, Soil Scientist and Geologist
Did you know that many farmers operate machines which produce CO2 in their greenhouses to encourage plant growth?
Another supposed “green house gas” is CH4 or methane produced by rotting vegetation and flatulence. The same government that is trying to tax cattle farmers for cow flatulence made it illegal to drain swamps which produce more methane than cattle.
