Six Officers Charged in Freddie Gray's Death

So far this case in defense of Freddie Gray appears to be more a negligence case than a murder case. Murder is a stretch based on the presentation by the prosecutor.

The attorney for the Gray family was a donor to prosecutor Marilyn Mosby’s election which some suggest is cause for the prosecutor to recuse herself.

Mrs. Mosby’s husband Councilman Nick Mosby facilitated the looting.

Since half the officers charged are black, it’s hard to see how the racism complaints apply.

The officers and the charges are as follows.

Officer Caesar Goodson Jr. (the driver of the van): Second-degree depraved-heart murder (30 years); Involuntary manslaughter (10 years)Assault/second degree (10 years); Manslaughter by vehicle, gross negligence (10 years); Manslaughter by vehicle, criminal negligence (three years); Misconduct in office

Officer William Porter: Involuntary manslaughter (10 years); Assault/second degree (10 years); Misconduct in office

Lt. Brian Rice: Involuntary manslaughter (10 years); Assault/second degree (10 years); Assault/second degree (10 years); Misconduct in office; Misconduct in office; False imprisonment

Officer Edward Nero: Assault/second degree (10 years); Assault/second degree (10 years); Misconduct in office; Misconduct in office; False imprisonment

Officer Garrett Miller: Assault/second degree (10 years); Assault/second degree (10 years); Misconduct in office; Misconduct in office; False imprisonment

Sgt. Alicia White: Involuntary manslaughter (10 years); Assault/second degree (10 years); Misconduct in office

The Baltimoreans are celebrating the charges. It’s highly unlikely the officers can get a fair trial in Baltimore.

The mayor had an accusatory tone aimed at the police during her speech today. She set up a them against me situation.

Charles Krauthammer thinks it looks like appeasement of the mob.
