Social media blew up over multi-colored nooses hung from a tree on the Austin Peay State University but it appears that it might be an art project approved by the professor of a sculpture class and was intended to bring attention to the number of suicides within the LGBT community.

The incident was blasted on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, in online mainstream media, and elsewhere before anyone had a clue as to whether or not there was a reasonable explanation or it was a hoax.

The statement from the university said there were several complaints about the display, and removed them for concerns of “hate symbolism” and the potential impact on campus.

A comment on the university’s Facebook post indicated the display was part of an art project in an introductory sculpture class. The student said the project concepts and locations were approved in advance by the instructor.

Another student from the class wrote on the university’s Facebook page, “It was one of several art projects done in our Sculpture class. I’d just like to say it wasn’t affiliated with the GSA, or any LGBT group on campus. I saw a few people directing the blame in their direction since it was in ” rainbow pride colors”, but this was a single student’s work.”

It is still being described as an assault against LGBTs in paranoid frenzies on social media.

“This incident is deeply disturbing and is hurtful to our University community,” Austin Peay President Alisa White said in a statement. “Regardless of the intent, the display has no place on our campus. I am saddened, and I am sorry for the hurt and offense this has caused and want our students, faculty, and staff to know that it will not be tolerated.”

Our society is hysterical over everything except the destruction of our constitution, our deteriorating foreign policy, and the rising leftist ideals in our culture.
