What do you think Putin’s up to?

President Putin of Russia is suddenly going along with the religion of climate change even though he recently called it a fraud. Now he says Climate Change is “one of the gravest challenges” facing humanity.

Why would he go along with it now? Does he see the end of the U.S. system of Capitalism?

Watch:

Putin thinks the climate is changing but has always had his doubts that human activity is causing it. He calls the science a “fraud” used to prevent Russia from tapping its vast oil and natural gas reserves.

In 2003 Putin told an international climate conference that warmer temperatures would mean Russians “spend less on fur coats” while “agricultural specialists say our grain production will increase, and thank God for that”.

His view hasn’t changed and he told that to the UN’s intergovernmental panel recently.

The president believes that “there is no global warming, that this is a fraud to restrain the industrial development of several countries including Russia,” says Stanislav Belkovsky, a political analyst and critic of Putin. “That is why this subject is not topical for the majority of the Russian mass media and society in general.”

It is difficult to spend editorial resources on things that are now a low priority in the midst of the economic crisis,” says Galina Timchenko, former editor-in-chief of the successful news site Lenta.ru. Timchenko now runs Meduza, a popular site that covers Russian news.

In the early 2000s, Putin’s staff “did very, very extensive work trying to understand all sides of the climate debate”, said Andrey Illarionov, Putin’s senior economic adviser at the time and now a senior fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington.

“We found that, while climate change does exist, it is cyclical, and the anthropogenic role is very limited,” he said. “It became clear that the climate is a complicated system and that, so far, the evidence presented for the need to ‘fight’ global warming was rather unfounded.”

The LA Times commented on Putin’s views in an article, claiming even conservatives admit the earth is warming but they just don’t care and they warned that they are on the same side as Putin. They think his denial will keep him from becoming a superpower.

Climategate proved the data behind Climate Science was manipulated and exploited, but the left wants us to act as if it never happened.

Suddenly, Putin believes in the redistribution scheme of climate change and all the global governance that will go with it.

  1. i don’t think his opinion has changed, he was just playing nice for the cameras. he was probably thinking about more pressing issues than a climate charade designed to commit a handful of countries to foot the bill for everyone else.
on the bright side he did step up against the left by putting the kibosh on all russian based ngos’ funded by mr. soros:
