Supervisor Frank Petrone of Huntington Gives Dictators a Bad Name

If you want to know what is wrong with our government, you don’t need to go as far as DC to figure it out. Just go to Huntington Long Island where one town Supervisor voted himself a really nice pay raise while freezing the pay of the $38,000-a-year white-collar workers.

The workers happen to be in a union so if you wonder why unions get a little crazy at times, this is one reason why.

The workers agreed to a two-year pay freeze, a lag payroll, and a 10% health insurance contribution. They wanted to save the jobs of their co-workers.

The Supervisor, Mr. Petrone, turned around and gave himself a $4360.00 pay raise.

These are the reasons he has earned one of our greatest honors as The Dictator. He is making a mockumentary of the Huntington Town government.

This honor doesn’t go to just anyone of course. The honoree has to be completely out-of-touch and has to say hypocritical things like “it’s about shared sacrifice.” This is exactly what Supervisor Petrone said. [Bring back the guillotine!]

He went one further and mentioned all the sacrifices by blue collar workers, appointees et al to bolster his point.

“When you look at what all the other employees have given over the years from blue collar, to appointees, the electeds, it all averages out in terms of everyone giving,” he said. “What they have agreed to makes it so nobody loses their job. If the contract did not go, there would have been layoffs.” [Newsday]

Politicians like Frank Petrone have a good thing going with this shared sacrifice scheme – everyone gives a little so they can get more.

What happened to the days of setting an example? Now it’s do as I say not as i do.
