teacher's aide goes off the rails

Students at Bayview High School on Milwaukee’s Southside are spreading the following video of a teacher fighting a student. The 39-year-old staff member pushed a 14-year-old onto a desk, then held him by his neck and pushed him to the floor.

Reports say that the student first walked up to the teacher saying, “what’s up” kicked his feet up the teacher and that’s when the teacher went off the rails. The teacher’s aide has been arrested. The student was treated in a hospital for minor injuries.

CBS News spoke with some of the children in the classroom who said they had argued for some time.  “[The student] was talking stuff and then the teacher came, slammed him on the chair, and started choking him saying you don’t know who you’re [expletive] messing with,” one student said.

“This teacher’s just bogus,” said one student. “But then again, the kid shouldn’t have been talking stuff.”

How can kids learn in these schools? Some schools are like the ones you would see in a third world country.

Warning: vulgar language

Milwaukee Public School District released this statement about the incident:

MPS finds this incident deeply disturbing. As soon as the school administration was notified of the incident, the Milwaukee Police Department was contacted and the staff member was removed from the classroom. We are cooperating with MPD. This staff member – who is a paraprofessional (teacher aide) – faces disciplinary action, including termination.
