“Let’s look at the facts: in 2008, when Flint had 265 sworn officers on their police force, there were 35 murders and 91 rapes in this city. In 2010, when Flint had only 144 police officers, the murder rate climbed to 65 and rapes–just to pick two categories–climbed to 229. In 2011, you now only have 125 shields.” ~Joe Biden, October 18, 2011
“In Flint, Michigan, they cut their force in half; murder rates have doubled in the last year…Police departments, as I said, in some cases literally cut in half, like Camden, New Jersey, and Flint, Michigan. In many cities, the result has been — and it’s not unique — murder rates are up, robberies are up, rapes are up…I said rape was up, three times in Flint. There are the numbers. Go look at the numbers.” ~Joe Biden, October 19, 2011, on Capitol Hill
Besides the fact that it’s a new low to exploit rape crimes in a political speech, I didn’t know Republicans were in support of more rapes and murders, wow, do I feel stupid.
Actually Joe’s facts and suppositions were wrong as well. From Politifact half-truth meter: “…how would Obama’s jobs bill increase the number of police? It does not directly fund police positions. Rather, it sends additional money to the states, primarily for education. Biden is likely making the assumption that additional money in one area could prevent layoffs in another, as many states are required to balance their budget on an annual or biannual basis…
Then there’s the question of whether fewer cops equals more crime…Generally speaking, most of the evidence we reviewed said that the number of police is one factor among several in preventing crime…”
Why does Joe stop at half-a-trillion anyway? If we spent $20 trillion, we’d never have another rape or murder. No emergency would go unheeded. Our children would all be geniuses.
