Trump has won Michigan and Arizona. Arizona was a given but no Republican has won the presidential vote in Michigan since 1988.
Michigan was won because Donald Trump turned 12 counties to win. There were far fewer votes for Hillary in Detroit and Wayne County. The African-American vote was down – they didn’t turn out for her.
Trump did better in 75 counties than Romney did in 2012. The urban vote was much higher in many of these counties and in other states than in 2012, but it was overshadowed by the rural areas.
The people want change. The message of helping the forgotten man and fighting for them, taking on Ford, did resonate in Michigan.
This isn’t necessarily a referendum. Some voted for Trump because they didn’t want Hillary. Both candidates were disliked. He won Michigan by only 13,000 votes.
The final tally is 306 electoral votes for Trump and 232 for Hillary. The final popular vote is 60,110,474, giving Trump 47.4% of the electorate and 60,535,097, with 47.7% of the electorate going for Hillary. Neither hit 50% and Hillary won by a razor-thin margin.
The left is demanding an end to the electoral college which would also be the end of our Republic.
Except for IBD and USC/LA Times, the poll predictions were way, way off. Why? Probably because they either let their emotions get in the way and didn’t keep an open mind or they didn’t understand what made this election different – trade, open borders, healthcare and real hope and real change.
