The United States has begun talks with Russia as they build up their military in Syria, Secretary of State John Kerry announced Friday.
While in the past the Obama administration has said Assad must go, they are now looking for common ground with Russia, a staunch ally of Russia’s and Iran’s.
Mr. Kerry said that the Obama administration would not change its basic goals in Syria – the defeat of ISIS – and they would seek a political solution for the conflict there. It’s no longer a demand that Assad be deposed.
“Our focus remains on destroying ISIL and also on a political settlement with respect to Syria, which we believe cannot be achieved with the long-term presence of Assad,” Mr. Kerry said in London at a meeting with a representative of the U.A.E.. “But we’re looking for ways in which to try to find a common ground. Clearly, if you’re going to have a political settlement, which we’ve always argued is the best and only way to resolve Syria, you need to have conversations with people, and you need to find a common ground.”
Russia is on the ground in Syria to help their ally, Bashar al-Assad, no other reason. Assad is trying to end the insurgence of more moderate Muslims. Russia is in the country to help them do that, as is Iran.
Barack Obama won’t go after Assad because he is an ally of Iran and he doesn’t want to upset them because of the nuclear deal.
We are now allied with some very evil actors.
The only thing Russia is concerned about is shoring up Assad. Putin is trying to say we have common ground over ISIS but Russia and Iran plan to destroy the insurrection by citizens.
After Obama drew the red line he consequently ignored, he allowed Russia to take charge of the disposal of “all” of Assad’s chemical weapons. We knew Assad was hiding many of the chemicals. Since that time, Assad has been using them, not on ISIS, on his own people who are rebelling against him.
It is the main reason we have the migrant crisis in Europe, a crisis that will continue until something is done about Syria.
Russia’s and Iran’s involvement – Iran is also on the ground in Syria – will cause more people to flee.
As all this is going on, Iran continues to spin centrifuges, North Korea is restarting their nuclear program and ISIS is seeking WMDs and is believed to have used them.
