Asked if Obama is a friend or an acquaintance, Trumka said, “He’s a friend. There’s a lot of things we disagree with him on. There’s far more things that we agree with him on….”
Trumka said he’d like to see the U.S. become more like a European nation that provides pensions and health care for all its citizens. He said he is accustomed to criticism and doesn’t mind if conservatives call that socialism.
“Being called a socialist is a step up for me,” Trumka said.
The unions are NOT enjoying an uptick in their popularity and are trying to change their image. Trumka, who often rails against the rich, is rich himself. He makes $290,000 a year. How’s that for an image? It’s so unBolshevik of him.
Earlier today, AFSME boss Lee Sanders enjoyed kicking an empty chair off the stage in front of Wisconsin delegates while yelling, “Dirty Harry, make my day.” It makes one want to give him a big hug.
I say that because the AFL-CIO is running a Hug-a-Thug booth outside the DNC. If you go up to thugs at the booth, they’ll give you a hug.
