The black Al Qaeda flag is now flying above the Libyan flag over the courthouse in Benghazi. It only took a billion dollars of our money to assist al Qaeda in asserting control over Benghazi. Hopefully, this doesn’t mean Libya will go to the Muslim Brotherhood. After all, we have a small California town that flies the Mexican flag, but Cali isn’t taken over. We don’t know what is going to happen, and that is the problem, isn’t it? The CIA has been gutted and we are acting on emotion and flimsy evidence.
Remember when we were so worried that Gaddafi was marching his soldiers towards Benghazi and all those people might be in danger? They must be very grateful for our help. It took them no time at all to raise that flag which has been flying for a week or two.
“There is no God but Allah” was written in Arabic on the flag raised above the streets of Benghazi, considered the heart of the Libyan revolutionaries who toppled Muammar Gaddafi’s regime. The al Qaeda flag is raising concerns that Libya might go to the Muslim Brotherhood – ya think?
The National Transitional Council is denying involvement.
Meanwhile, the entire success of this operation is questionable at best.
Guardian author Seumas Milne writes that Human Rights Watch reported the discovery of 53 bodies, military and civilian, in Gaddafi’s last stronghold of Sirte, apparently executed – with their hands tied – by former rebel militia.
Another investigator reported to Mr. Milne that more bodies are being discovered in Sirte where there are about 500 civilians and fighters killed in the last 10 days by the indiscriminate NATO bombing and shelling.
…Amnesty International has now produced compendious evidence of mass abduction and detention, beating and routine torture, killings and atrocities by the rebel militias Britain, France and the U.S. have backed for the last eight months – supposedly to stop exactly those kind of crimes being committed by the Gaddafi regime.
Throughout that time African migrants and black Libyans have been subject to a relentless racist campaign of mass detention, lynchings and atrocities on the usually unfounded basis that they have been loyalist mercenaries…
While this goes on, NATO turns a blind eye. The possibility of Civil War exists as various factions make it clear that the National Transitional Council does not speak for them. It is NATO’s hope that the NTC will put a pro Western government in place.
