Unsurprisingly, we are in the midst of what appears to be a new Cold War. Russia doesn’t want its neighbors to have any form of self-defense and are threatening them as a matter of course if they even discuss an anti-missile defense system. Over the weekend, Russia threatened to aim nuclear weapons at Denmark’s warships because of what they are thinking of doing.
We all know that Barack Obama famously reset our relations with Russia so how could this be happening? Hillary Clinton even gave her Russian equal that plastic, improperly labeled reset button. Our president gave up the missile defense shield in Poland asking for nothing in return, master negotiator that he is. Obama promised on another occasion that he would have more flexibility after his last election to bring Russia around, so why aren’t they around?
With all that, Putin is thinking of aiming Atomic weapons at Denmark’s ships.
Russia’s dictator, Vlaidmir Putin, has returned the Obama administration’s efforts with aggression towards neighbors in Georgia and Ukraine and he has threatened the Baltics and other states in his backyard.
He is now raising the ante on the new Cold War.
The Russian ambassador to Denmark, Mikhail Vanin, said in an interview with a Danish newspaper this weekend, that they will aim nuclear missiles at Danish warships if Denmark joins NATO’s missile defense system.
In an interview in the newspaper Jyllands-Posten, the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Mikhail Vanin, said he did not think Danes fully understood the consequences of joining the program.
“If that happens, Danish warships will be targets for Russian nuclear missiles,” Vanin told the newspaper.
“Denmark will become a part of the threat against Russia. It will be less peaceful, and relations with Russia will be damaged,” Vanin said, adding that Russia has missiles which would be able to penetrate the future missile shield.
Denmark regularly cruises the Baltic Sea which Russia considers their bailiwick alone. They also have hopes of one day winning back the Baltic States.
NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said Denmark was a staunch member of the alliance and NATO would defend all allies against any threat.
“We have made clear that NATO’s ballistic missile defense is not directed at Russia or any country, but is meant to defend against missile threats. This decision was taken a long time ago, so we are surprised at the timing, tone and content of the statements made by Russia’s ambassador to Denmark,” she said.
“Such statements do not inspire confidence or contribute to predictability, peace or stability,” she added.
In addition to being surprised and not being inspired, they will hopefully support Denmark and Denmark will hopefully carry through with plans to outfit their ships with anti-missile capability.
Britain’s defense secretary says NATO members Romania and Britain will not be intimidated by threats against their members.
This is more about a Cold War than an actual threat of war though with Russia, one never knows.
NATO’s top military commander, U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove, said “Romania came under great pressure when they became a part of the (missile shield). Poland is coming under great pressure and now anyone else who wants to join in to this defensive capability will come under this diplomatic and political pressure.”
Denmark should move their warships to Brighton Beach.
