4 Reasons Con [gress] Man Mitch McConnell Must Go

Mitch McConnell

The permanent political class is in trouble in both parties. People are fleeing from the GOP and it can’t be solely blamed on Conservatives when 53% of registered Republican voters want an outsider to run for president of the United States.

There is no difference having Mitch McConnell presiding over the Senate than having Harry Reid. The bills that pass are the ones Barack Obama won’t veto.

Pushing Boehner out was only the first act. McConnell is the one who must go.

More than any of the aged clock watchers in the Congress, McConnell is the face of moss-covered rudderless leader who relies on deceit and propaganda to pass only those bills with something in it for him and his donors.

In June, Democrats filibustered the Defense appropriations bill and all appropriations bills until Republicans renegotiated the sequester. McConnell would undoubtedly cave because these are the bills that pay the troops.

Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, a stand-in for Harry Reid, was described by the media as preparing for a tough battle over the budget negotiations in the fall.

No one, absolutely no one believed that. In the past, politicians could lie, people are used to them lying, but the stakes are too high now. We have an administration that is transforming us into a Socialist “paradise.”

McConnell was determined to keep the Senate working even though it meant siding with Barack Obama and promoting his agenda.

Ben Domenech, publisher of The Federalist, wrote Monday, what if McConnell “saw the opportunity to break Reid and isolate the president on spending.”

He could have canceled all business, presented a Defense appropriations bill every 72 hours from June until September 30th for seven days a week, keeping the complacent 70-year old Senators “up all night for days”.

He could have broken the filibuster and campaigned against Democrats for blocking payment to the troops.

For three months, they could have sent the message that “Democrats are so angry at the American people for taking away their majority, they are refusing to pay the troops.”

Instead, McConnell caved and got nothing from Reid in return.

McConnell and his ilk were not willing to do what it takes. The budget process without earmarks is not worth their time. Instead of a shutdown, it would have been a few departments in danger of losing funding.

Instead of Congress having control of the power of the purse, Barack Obama has it because under McConnell’s leadership, Republicans can’t be bothered.

“McConnell needs to resign!!” Louisiana GOP Chairman Roger Villere wrote in a Facebook posting.  Top Republican Louisiana GOP Chairman Roger Villere told The Washington Times that “Mitch is a good and honorable guy, but the base is leaving our party. I’m out in the field all the time and we have all our elections this year for state offices, and it’s hurting us tremendously with our elections.”

The 66-year old Villere said, “If we lose the battle, we will never win the presidency again in my lifetime. I’ve worked for 12 years as chairman to build this party, and I just don’t want to see it all go down the drain because they aren’t willing to fight for what we believe in. Our base is demanding we do something or they’re going to leave us.”

Mitch McConnell, whose wife sits on the board of the Bloomberg Foundation – a large Planned Parenthood donor – had originally refused to bring the issue of the harvesting of baby body parts to the Senate floor. He changed tactics and allowed it to come to the floor when Sen. Ted Cruz called him a liar after he lied and said he didn’t have a deal over the EX-Im bank when he obviously did.

McConnell repeatedly told Sen. Cruz and 54 Republicans that there was no deal on the Import-Export Bank and that he opposed the bank, Cruz said. Cruz’s staff told him they were around a long time and McConnell was lying to him, but he had to believe McConnell after being promised over and over. It soon became clear that there was a deal and McConnell lied.

The Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im), which McConnell claimed to oppose, is viewed by conservatives as corporate welfare and crony capitalism at its worst. It’s supposed to help small businesses compete in the global market but it barely does. What it does do is favor large U.S. and foreign countries with tax dollars.

Kate’s law, which Barack Obama promised to veto, defunds sanctuary cities. McConnell would not allow it to be discussed.

McConnell did allow a vote on defunding Obamacare even though he knows they don’t have the 60 votes to pass it. It’s purely a PR move. It’s a “show” vote. He would never use reconciliation to allow it to get to the president’s desk and force him to veto it.

Does McConnell, or any Republican for that matter, actually make the case against Obamacare? Even fake opposition?

In 2013, Michael Patrick Leahy at Breitbart reported that the bill to end the government shutdown to defund Obamacare which was passed by Congress and promptly signed by President Obama included only one earmark for a major public works project–an additional $2.1 billion authorization for the Olmsted Dam Project in McConnell’s home state of Kentucky.

This pet project of McConnell’s was already 300% over budget. The project was first authorized by Congress in 1988 in Section 3 (a) (6) of Public Law 100-676, the Water Resources Development Act of 1988 at an original price tag of only $775 million. Two and a half decades later, the federal government has spent just short of $1.7 billion on the project to date, which remains less than halfway complete.

On issues important to the American public like sanctuary cities, McConnell “fills the tree”. In other words, he fills the time up with irrelevant and petty issues so no one else can offer an amendment.

McConnell’s response to being called a liar by Ted Cruz was to let his colleagues attack Cruz for him. The Senate Republicans stood up for their crony leader and almost no one stood up for the truth.

Mitch McConnell won’t allow votes on issues that are important to the American people like defunding Planned Parenthood because they are not important to the lobbyists.

McConnell is working closely with Harry Reid and claims the Senate is working again. Nothing has changed with McConnell in charge of the Senate and Barack Obama either passes laws by fiat or signs bills he likes sent to him by Mitch McConnell.

Senator Cruz can be heard on the video in this link.

The Loretta Lynch nomination was never held up because she suggested she will violate the law as Attorney General nor was it held up because she refused to answer significant questions and feigned ignorance during the questioning. Her nomination was held up so it could be used as a wedge in the battle over the anti-human trafficking law.

Democrats found some routine anti-abortion language in the bill and, thanks to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, they mounted a challenge.

Republican leaders had insisted the trafficking bill be finished before any vote on Loretta Lynch to replace Attorney General Eric Holder.

“As soon as we finish the trafficking bill, as I’ve indicated for some time now, we’ll move to the president’s nominee for attorney general — hopefully in the next day or so,” said Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican.

An agreement was reached over the issue and the Senate quickly voted to confirm Loretta Lynch.

Loretta Lynch has majority support in a Republican-controlled Senate and she has made it relatively clear she will uphold Obama’s laws as opposed to the Constitution despite the fact that she will be the chief law enforcement officer in the land.

In 2014, McConnell ended debate on the bill to increase the nation’s debt ceiling. He didn’t want a shutdown and he didn’t want to put himself out. There was nothing in it for him.

McConnell had no problem bringing Fast Track for the Trans Pacific Partnership Treaty to the floor despite opposition.

Barack Obama had already said he could use at least one trade bill to further his climate change agenda but that was of no concern to McConnell. The fact that Barack Obama is the worst negotiator in recent history is of no concern either. Ironically, the bill could end up hastening the destruction of McConnell’s own coal state. That is yet to be seen.

McConnell has an extraordinary commitment to preserving NSA’s unlimited and illegal surveillance. There is no gross invasion of privacy that is too invasive for him.

McConnell likened the ending of bulk collection to “tying our hands behind our backs.”

McConnell wouldn’t even delay the vote on the Iran deal yet claimed the Republicans in the Senate strongly opposed the Iran deal. He blames his inaction and poor leadership on Democrats. Never lifting a finger doesn’t count as the “stink coming out of D.C.” in his mind.

His claims often don’t match his actions. His 2008 reelection campaign focused heavily on his ability to secure pork-barrel spending for Kentucky, which showed little respect for the taxpayer or small government.

The New Republic’s Alec MacGillis authored an e-book, “The Cynic: The Political Education of Mitch McConnell”. He sees McConnell as serving not at the behest of country, but at the behest of party and personal aggrandizement.

Perhaps, it’s only personal aggrandizement.

The more he’s learned about the benefits of fundraising, the more McConnell has liked the “soft money” he once deplored, according to MacGillis.

McConnell lives, breathes and eats politics, MacGillis heard over and over again while writing his book. Without it, he’d wither and die.

McConnell has been repeatedly named CREW’s most corrupt for illicit use of staff for campaign activities among other issues.

His entire history reads like tho.

  1. The current leadership of the GOP, as exemplified by Bawlin’ John Boehner and March hare Mitch McConnell, reminds me of the three-two beer we used to get down in Georgia during army training — no matter how much of it you guzzled, it never gave you much of a buzz…
