All Second Amendment Options on the Table, Including a Redefinition of Assault Weapons

Redefinition of assault weapons

The Washington Post reported that Sarah Brady said Obama told her his administration is “working on it,” likely referring to gun control. And Brady then told the NY Post that Obama said, “We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

President Obama came out today in support of the assault weapons ban even though the last ban had no effect. Jerrold Nadler, representative from NY, said Obama should “exploit” the situation, referring to the horrific events in Connecticut.

Questions we should have are whether he will redefine assault weapons to include semiautomatic rifles and handguns. Also, will clips become magazines and what about prohibitive federal taxes on firearms and ammo?

John Snyder, a well-known gun rights’ advocate and former Jesuit seminarian, said that based on confidential information, “forces linked with the administration suggest the government classify semiautomatic firearms and multiple capacity ammunition feeding devices as Title 2 National Firearms Act items under the Gun Control Act of 1968.”

“Under this scenario, semiautomatics and high capacity magazines could be acquired only with great difficulty and at great expense by America’s estimated 100 million law-abiding firearms owners.”

“The Obama gang probably realizes it would have a possibly insurmountable difficulty getting a semi auto ban, such as that considered by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and others, through Congress,” Snyder noted. “Congressional Second Amendment supporters already are preparing for such a battle. During the Clinton years, Congress enacted a partial, temporary semiauto ban but allowed it to sunset after 10 years because of its lack of significant negative impact on crime. The Obama administration now may order the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to take the classification step. Some gun-grabbers view the designation of Street Sweeper shotguns as Title 2 items during the Clinton administration as precedent for such a move.”…keep reading

To pass an outright law through Congress would not be doable and might cause a domestic crisis but he has other means such as executive orders and heavy taxation, something President Obama has abused and used to bypass Congress and our Constitution.

Mr. Snyder notes:

“For several years, various groups and individuals have discussed the anti-gun owner proclivities of the administration. Obama anti-gun owner activities have involved the promulgation of anti-gun federal regulations, the appointment of anti-gun judges to the federal courts, including the Supreme Court, and the appointment of anti-gun personnel to other high federal positions, including the attorney generalship of the United States.”

President Obama was consistently anti-gun while serving in the senate. He has continued to prove nothing has changed as he pushes the Arms Trade Treaty, which will supersede our Constitution. Within hours of winning the election, he notified the UN that he wanted to begin talks on the ATT.

The last Supreme Court vote on the Second Amendment was only one Justice’s vote away from elimination.  The dissenting opinion presented by Justice Stevens was based on the premise that Americans had no expectation to the right of self-defense.

At a luncheon last October 15th, the now-retired Justice Stevens said,  “You Have the ‘Constitutional Right’ to Call 911, Not to Own a Gun.” [Outdoor Life]

Dianne Feinstein is introducing an assault weapons ban on the opening day of Congress. “It will ban the sale, the transfer, the importation and the possession, not retroactively, but prospectively,” and ban the sale of clips of more than ten bullets, Feinstein said. “The purpose of this bill is to get… weapons of war off the streets.”

In 1994, the “weapons of war” included AK-47’s which are rifles. None of what she is proposing would have stopped the Newtown Massacre.

Obama is being encouraged by Mayor Bloomberg, who is rabidly anti-gun, to bypass Congress in direct violation of our Constitution.

It is not a matter of will the president ban assault weapons but how far he will go.
