Bad Deal? Comprehensive Immigration Reform In Exchange for Amnesty for Dreamers

Chavez marched under the famous slogan “Si se puede!” which you can see on one of the signs in the photo. It means “Yes, We Can!”, which is a Communist Revolutionary slogan.

President Donald Trump’s top aides are urging him to offer protection for Dreamers in exchange for overall immigration legislation, McClatchy reported on Tuesday.

As the deadline to renew Dreamer permits nears, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is spearheading the move to add this as a so-called accomplishment after the failed healthcare legislation.

The problem of course is Democrats won’t give him credit and his base won’t like it. It’s also not equivalent in any way to passing healthcare legislation. Another problem is in the fact that it would break a campaign promise.

Trump promised to end the program during his campaign.

The Hill reported that Texas and nine other states will file a lawsuit against the Barack Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, unless the Trump administration rescinds it by Sept. 5.

Many are concerned that once Dreamers are given amnesty, chain migration will be set up which is what DACA promised to do.

Dreamers are largely a sympathetic group though individually some or many are not. It’s seen as an inroad to open borders by many.

Some want to make legalization of Dreamers contingent on a funding bill which will undoubtedly continue all of Obama’s legacy items. Otherwise it’s the “dreaded” government shutdown which Democrats have convinced Republicans will destroy them.

Democrats won’t support the building of the wall and McConnell won’t pass anything with a majority vote though it’s obvious Democrats will do exactly that once they are back in control.

Democrats and liberal Republicans want to pass another comprehensive immigration reform bill like the one passed by the Senate several years ago. It granted amnesty to people here illegally with a promise of a border wall and the hiring of border agents to take place years after amnesty is granted.

The new bill will allegedly include a border wall, detention facilities, curbing legal immigration and implementing E-verify, an online system that allows businesses to check immigration status in exchange for protecting Dreamers, young people brought into the country illegally as children by their undocumented parents.

It will likely be the same thing we saw last time. Sure sounds like the last bit! I read the original bill and it’s “fixed” replacement. It was amnesty with a pinky swear on border security. It also allowed several people in government positions to grant amnesty independently. The border wall was up for grabs as well.

This is a guess, but this proposal could possibly be the deal of the century for the liberals in Congress. They would get amnesty for Dreamers immediately, amnesty for all at some point, and they would likely never build the wall.

The people in the administration who allegedly oppose a citizenship deal are Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Stephen Miller, who serves as Trump’s senior policy adviser, and Rick Dearborn, White House deputy chief of staff.

Let’s build the wall first with a promise for amnesty some day!
