President Biden pardoned five family members in the last 15 minutes in office. He said that he did so not because they did anything wrong but because he feared political attacks from incoming President Donald J. Trump.
This is a new low, even for the former administration.
This president only wants crimes dealt with and has never desired to be vindictive. He was president before and was not vengeful.
“My family has been subjected to unrelenting attacks and threats, motivated solely by a desire to hurt me — the worst kind of partisan politics,” he said in his last statement as president. “Unfortunately, I have no reason to believe these attacks will end.”
Mr. Biden’s action pardoned James B. Biden, his brother; Sara Jones Biden, James’s wife; Valerie Biden Owens, Mr. Biden’s sister; John T. Owens, Ms. Owens’s husband; and Francis W. Biden, Mr. Biden’s brother.
The White House announced the pardons with 15 minutes left in Mr. Biden’s presidency after he had already walked into the Capitol Rotunda to witness the swearing-in of Mr. Trump before the swearing-in.
That was done deliberately. The NY Times is trying to make this about protecting people from unfair revenge. What nonsense.
President Trump said he knew about the pardons of Biden’s family but decided not to mention it in the speech. He discussed it afterward.
What do readers think of the speech?
Opinion
The J6 panel was pardoned even though they lied and deleted almost all the evidence.
Gen. Milley betrayed his country, the military, and the president.
Dr. Fauci lied under oath and hid the facts beginning in February 2020 to protect his funding for the Wuhan lab. He destroyed people’s lives with his lies. We couldn’t keep our jobs or take medicine that might have helped us. We were silenced.
The administration grossly overcharged the protesters for partisan reasons. The former administration politicized every agency.
Biden pardoned his co-conspirators in a coup and years of lawfare, which will continue.
He pardoned the officers who testified before Congress with questionable testimony.
Preemptive pardons are an abuse of power. It’s fascist. The Biden administration was above the law. They spied on political opponents and have made it impossible to hold them accountable.

Speech, what speech, thought I had tuned into the Golden Globe awards when they showed Lauren Sanchez.
I find it difficult to believe that a pardon for unknown crimes can be valid.
This is something that needs to be challenged before the Supreme Court.
Great speech. Glad he’s back. Law and order is a joke if you have connections. How can our leaders expect us to be law abiding if they are not.
What did everyone think of the speech?
Absolutely loved Trump’s speech. If anyone couldn’t understand everything he said, they have mental issues.
Me too! I loved it. Radical Democrats likely hated it.
Clever, well thought out, highlighted the things the votes said they wanted.
I feel that a fair look at the speech will show a man who loves the country, wants to get rid of issues and attitudes that divide and wants to bring back unity to work together. Make America United Again!
If he can do half of what he promised, it will be great.
Loved it so much. He was somber and serious which fit the situation in our nation. I cried.
It gives us hope. I don’t know how he wil do it.
The speech was bold and beautiful! His words were a big tissue for America’s long suffering tears.
As a side note, I wanted to mention the indoor inaugural settings. I had the preconceived notion that the indoor inauguration, pomp and circumstance would be inferior. Wow, was I wrong, it was better! It was personalized and (somehow) even intimate. It was as if he wore a Trump-Cam and we enjoyed everything alongside him. Sure, I missed the ceremonial horses, but not enough to ever want an outdoor inauguration ever again.
I agree. I watched some of it.
