US car manufacturer Ford has said it will lay off 4,000 of its workforce in Europe, becoming the latest automaker to try to cut costs amid weak electric vehicle (EV) sales and competition from China.
The job cuts represent about 14% of Ford’s 28,000 workforce in Europe and around 2.3% of its total workforce of 174,000, and will be completed by the end of 2027. Most layoffs will be in Germany with 2900. Another 800 might take place in Britain.
Germany is de-industrializing, mostly due to poor policies.
The US carmaker will be the latest after Nissan, Stellantis, and GM to resort to the drastic step in a bid to cut costs as the automotive sector faces challenges, including weak EV sales.
Ford announced massive layoffs last year as part of an austerity plan. They don’t need as many workers in EVs and they also aren’t selling EVs as they hoped.
Dave Johnston, Ford’s European vice president for transformation and partnerships, said that it is “critical to take difficult but decisive action to ensure Ford’s future competitiveness in Europe.”

Like that’s a big surprise… Who can afford a $30K to $80K Ford these days. I was out looking for Black Friday deals today in my three hubcap POS and I gotta say it was a joke. I didn’t see any deals and the stores and roads were empty. It was tapped out city.
I haven’t seen it this bad since 2008. I recall being in Walmart then and there was panic on every other persons face. It feels like that again.
We need Trump in office fast. I don’t know how much more of the build back better we can take.
Bidenomics killed many businesses in our country. Especially small businesses.
Speaking of EVs…
I just saw a video, the guy explains that charging an EV takes on average 137 KW per hour and takes usually close to one hour…
and the average home takes 4 to 7 days to use that much electricity.
I googled it
the average home uses 1100 KW per month
that is roughly 36 KW per day
or about 1.5 KW per hour
charging an EV one hour uses about 100 times
what your home uses in that hour !!
charging an EV for one hour use the electricity a home uses in 4 to 7 days
and at those charging station sometimes 5 or 6 cars are charging at once, and every hour or two more EVs arrive and charge.
lets say 30 EVs charged there in one day
and 30 x 137 KW = 4100 KW, that is what your home uses in 3 to 4 months
That insanely large amount of electricity necessary to charge EVs has to come from somewhere
When you analyze ” green” energy and look at the number, it is not so green anymore…
Quit confusing the issue with facts.
Wondering, will FORD use DEI to decide who gets the axe? European legal citizens or illegal alien Muslims? Might be dangerous in Europe to layoff Islam.
After it’s finalized; like to see layoff demographics. I would bet Christians and Jews will be the first picks to layoff.
