Democrats are conducting hearings today to discuss taking down Newsmax, Fox News, OAN, and anything they don’t like. CNN has been a driver of this.
They are just like the McCarthy hearings. If Democrats get their way, the First Amendment is finished. It is clearly an assault on the right to free speech.
Three Democrats signed a letter to shut down the traditional outlets, and this hearing is an outcome.
Democrats are using the January 6th riot to shut down free speech. Having the hearing intimidates the outlets and their ability to offer divergent opinions.
The hearings are like a Putin tactic to threaten outlets and force them to self-censor. It is hyperpartisan.
You would think the press would be worried about this. Elected officials are using their power to censor outlets they disagree with. It’s CCP censorship. The answer is always more speech but Democrats don’t want to debate. They think they are right and their opinion is the only way.

Did any republican bring up the arrogant hypocrisy of members of Congress speaking about abridging the public’s free speech when THEY are protected by the Speech and Debate clause that allows them protection from any liability in any way, civil OR criminal.
A good example of the absurdity of a republican question, “Is it better deterrent with defamation laws or having the fairness doctrine”. That sounds exactly like those questions on an RNC fundraising questionnaire, of which I started marking over them with “Stupid Question”.
Kinzinger thinks he made a real Zinger with non-existent flu and masks. Evidently then, masks don’t work with Covid. Did he actually make a joke. He spoke about constituents listening to their own representatives. So, he makes the statement HIS constituents would believe him first. Really. I rather doubt it, in His case.

Another failure in the theater of Congressional Hearings. What I’ve seen so far, which isn’t much, we have each side going to the side of their own principles seeking reinforcement. What the Democrats are doing is nothing like the McCarthy Hearings. McCarthy was investigating a threat to the Constitution and the American way of Life; Communism. Also, the HUAC (house unamerican activities committee) ran for many more years than McCarthy’s committee, and provided the basis for the formation of McCarthy’s senate hearings. That house committee was bipartisan, chaired by members of both parties. Therefore, the idea that McCarthy’s hearings were the creation of a single person, a lunatic, is invalid.
