God Bless Fathers Everywhere!

Happy Father’s Day!

Father’s Day was official on July 19, 1910 when the governor of the U.S. state of Washington proclaimed the nation’s first “Father’s Day.”

Mother’s had sentimental appeal and Father’s Day was met with less enthusiasm though they are as important. There are over 70 million fathers in the United States.

Many men thought the holiday too sentimental and unmanly and, as in the case of Mother’s Day, they saw it as a commercial gimmick.

In 1972 Richard Nixon proclaimed Father’s Day a federal holiday. Economists estimate that Americans spend more than $1 billion each year on Father’s Day gifts.

Is that a bad thing though?

The day commemorates fatherhood which often gets too little regard. It sets aside another day to celebrate and a day for businesses to make money. It’s okay with me.

Check out this touching commercial. It has to be the best I have ever seen.
