Update: 8/15/16: The killer who crept up behind an imam and his friend near a Queens mosque and shot both men in the head may have been settling a score in a feud between Muslims and Hispanics, police sources said early Monday. Hispanics in the area said this was to avenge crimes by Muslims.
And he may have left behind another victim who unwittingly held the clue that solved the crime, the sources said.
The suspected killer was taken into custody Sunday night but had not been charged or identified, according to the sources. Police officials would not confirm whether a suspect was nabbed.
If it turns out this is a Hispanic-Muslim feud, will they ask Luis Gutierrez for an apology? Will Jorge Ramos apologize to the Muslims?
Will the community that accused Donald Trump apologize?
The New York Daily News headline blared, Queens imam and his assistant shot to death by gunman in attack local Muslims blame on Donald Trump: ‘His drama has created Islamophobia’.
That is not supported by the facts – yet. These men were beloved by the congregation.
An imam and a friend, a congregant, were shot in the back of the head by a man described as a tall Hispanic man who never said a word as they walked from prayers. They were shot at point-blank range. It could fit an “execution style” killing.
The community leaders are saying it was a hate crime caused by Donald Trump.
“That’s not what America is about,” said local resident Khairul Islam, 33. “We blame Donald Trump for this . . . Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia.”
A high-ranking police source said the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force would investigate, but it was “too early to say” what the motive was.
It might have been a robbery gone bad because one of the men was carrying hundreds of dollars.
They have witnesses and video. They will catch the monster who did it.
This is an artist sketch who could also be an Arab. He was described as “tall, dark-skinned and wearing a dark blue shirt & shorts”. However, it has become known that there is a war going on between Muslims and Hispanics.
