According to ABC News, the only hearing agreed to by Senator Leahy will be at 2:30pm on Wednesday. The only witness will be Janet Napolitano. The 1500-page bill will reportedly be released on Tuesday, the day before.

Politico claims that Marco Rubio is willingly becoming the face of the immigration bill. He will be making the rounds of the Sunday news shows tomorrow.

Rubio’s requests for multiple hearings have been denied by the gang according to Politico.

Rubio has already pitched the immigration deal to the Senate Judiciary Conservatives and his staff has supposedly consulted with Charles Krauthammer and Conservatives at the National Review online.

Three days ago, the National Review Online posted three questions people should ask about the immigration bill:

  1. Will it encourage future illegal immigration?
  2. Will it increase the problems associated with illegal immigration such as welfare spending?
  3. Will it promote assimilation?

The review said that they are not dead set against any deal but their support depends on the answers to the above questions.

Four days ago, Charles Krauthammer wrote an article, The Trigger and the Poison Pill. He expressed his concern about giving instant amnesty to 11 million people with border enforcement to take place down the road.  It is an article worth reading. Krauthammer does a good job of exploring the reasons why Obama is already insisting he will torpedo the bill despite the fact that it leans Democrat by making illegals instantly legal without border enforcement first.

Senator Rubio said the following to Politico on Thursday:

“Obviously, we’ll be informing the public, and we’ll want everyone to know everything that’s in the bill,” Rubio told POLITICO Thursday. “We want everyone to know as much of what’s in the bill as possible, and we will use every opportunity we have to communicate that.”

How is he going to do that in less than 24 hours?

Another aspect of this story, which is never discussed, is the number of people here illegally. It has allegedly been 11 or 12 million for a decade now with more and more illegals coming in on a daily basis. It has to be more than 11 million people.

Senator Rubio once said “I never have and will never support any effort to support blanket legal immigration, amnesty.” He just wanted to change the rhetoric.
