On Friday, Judge Engoron, who is overseeing Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial, fined the former president $5,000 and threatened to imprison him for defying a partial gag order. He was ordered to remove a post insulting the judge’s law clerk on social media.

Judge Arthur Engoron was livid even though Trump’s attorney said it was inadvertent.

Engoron said Trump had posted on his social media account “an untrue and disparaging post about my clerk” and that he “ordered him to remove the post immediately, and he said he did take it down.”

He continued, “Despite this order, last night, I learned the offending post was never removed from a website. This is a blatant violation of the gag order. I made it clear [that] failure to comply will result in serious sanctions.”

“Incendiary untruths can and have led to serious physical harm. I will now allow the defendant to explain why this should not end up with serious sanctions, or I could possibly imprison him,” Engoron said.

If Trump violates his order, Engoron said he might imprison him for a mean post.

“Make no mistake: future violations, whether intentional or unintentional, will subject the violator to far more severe sanctions, which may include, but are not limited to, steeper financial penalties, holding Donald Trump in contempt of court, and possibly imprisoning him,” Engoron wrote.

Trump took it down from Truth Social, but the campaign failed to take it down.

This judge is crazy. Harold Ford had a similar restraining order placed on him and it failed. The judge might take a look at the first amendment. What a tool.

If there is a gag order on the defendant then that order must also apply to the media . aka if the defendant can’t publicly defend himself then the media can’t publicly attack him.
A gag order should mean no one can talk about it.

Good point. That’s the way it’s always worked. And it’s rarely applied in the US except as a protective measure for women or kids. I can’t even remember a time I’ve seen it applied to a political situation. This is malicious legal terrorism. It’s a mark against conservatives that it’s not being rejected more vigorously.

B effing S. No current or former POTUS or Killary is spending a moment in jail for anything short of proven murder. Otherwise, you’re saying Secret Service is going to do time right along with them. At most, they’ll have house arrest.

If they do, Trump’s polling will go through the roof, as he will become one with the hood.

This appears to be a case of either insanity or a case of Alzheimer’s far worse than Biden’s.

he can’t throw trump in jail – where the secret service (who will not leave his side) be?
Trump is taunting the judge because of it – and the judge is going to lose on appeal either way he’s over the top wrong letting cameras and pandering too them – then telling trump his actions are wrong

If he’s insane he should be given care. If he has dementia, he should be in a care facility. In either case jail is not the answer, but it will increase his support among minorities with similar life experiences! Since, the left depends on the illusion they champion the rights of minority and other fringe groups, the left is shooting themself in foot, again. By all means, don’t let me divert your attention from what the left is doing. Please continue.
