Mayor Koch Knew Obama Would Renege on Promises to Support Israel

Let's not listen to him anymore.
Let’s not listen to him anymore.

The Algemeiner interviewed Mayor Koch recently and he said he is disappointed in President Obama’s selection of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense and hopes that some Democrats come out against the appointment. He said it is a test for Chuck Schumer [I think Chuck will get an F].

Koch said he knew Obama would renege on his promises of support for Israel but didn’t think it would happen this soon.

“Frankly, I thought that there would come a time when he would renege on what he conveyed on his support of Israel,” said Koch, adding, “it comes a little earlier than I thought it would.”

“It’s very disappointing, I believe he will ultimately regret it,” Koch said, “and it undoubtedly will reduce support for him in the Jewish community, but I don’t think he (the President) worries about that now that the election is over.”

In response to being asked why he voted for Obama, he offered the following excuse:

“I did what I thought was warranted and intelligent,” he said, “He was going to win! There was no question about it. [He didn’t know that] I thought it would be helpful to have a Jewish voice there, being able to communicate.”

The Mayor says he has no regrets, “it’s wouldn’t make any difference. The Jews were going to vote for him no matter what. And that’s the nature of the Jews. They are always very solicitous of everybody else except their own needs and community.”

Most of us in New York love Mayor Koch but this is just wrong. Mayor Koch said he’s not accusing Hagel of anti-semitism, just of being hostile to Israel. I guess you could say that since Hagel supports easing or eliminating sanctions against Iran [so much better to build the bomb my dear].

Some of the comments on the article are as good as the article. I like this one from DanStlMo:

His name is Barack Hussein Obama not, Barack Goldstein Obama.

Another point of view comes from Jay Rosenfelt:

What a bunch of Chicken Littles!
“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!”
How silly! Let’s see what the guy has to say once the questions start being asked. Then we’ll assess the situation.
“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!”
How ridiculous!
Your extreme, hysterical, paranoic prejudices are showing…
Per usual.

Bill Krystol has a Chuck Hagel website you might want to checkout, click here. Even the liberal Anti-Defamation League isn’t terribly excited and hopes that Hagel can clarify his views during the confirmation hearings.

Hagel is a faux-Republican who fights Republicans on everything important. He was nondescript as a senator and accomplished nothing. He is solidly anti-Israel and supports a soft approach to Iran. In other words, he’s a fool.
