BBC diplomatic correspondent James Landale tweeted a “short clip that sums up” the summit. He linked a video claiming Trump had “chosen not to hear a translation of his Italian host’s speech.”
A short clip that sums up this G7 summit: look who has chosen not to hear a translation of his Italian host’s speech #G6 pic.twitter.com/6pXbBlfvof

The Daily Mirror UK made fools of themselves, titling their article, Donald Trump ‘caught pretending to listen’ at G7 summit – after crucial mistake ‘gives him away’. The only one that made a crucial mistake was them:
We see German Chancellor Angela Merkel giving her fingernails a swift glance as she listens and Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi closing his notes as he sits back in his chair.
Then… who’s this? US President Donald Trump appears in the frame.
He appears to be wearing a very serious facial expression as he listens to the Italian speech.
But there’s one very obvious difference between him and the others.

Where are his headphones? How can he be listening to this without a translation in his ear?
Is Donald Trump actually a fluent Italian speaker? We doubt it.
Sam Stein at HuffPo huffed away:
Trump obviously speaks fluent Italian so there is no need for headphones for translation https://t.co/CTq0N5iJu2

The senior editor at Business Insider and an MSNBC contributor also made a buffoon of himself:
@chrislhayes @samsteinhp Your contention is Trump may have read something voluntarily?

Daily Caller wrote that German newspaper Der Spiegal ran a similar story, claiming Trump was disinterested. They too look like jerks.
Chris Hayes snarked that Trump might have been reading a written translation.
Not one came up with the obvious.
You see, President Trump wears an earpiece in his right ear.
As usual @POTUS wears a single ear piece for translation in his right ear https://t.co/Opm2qk1hOQ

You can see the earpiece in his ear at the end of the long video.
Why doesn’t the media talk about this instead. If they actually talked about news, wouldn’t it be refreshing?
