N. Koreans Release American Student Otto Warmbier In a Coma

University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier, imprisoned by the North Koreans, is in a coma and “is being medivacked to the U.S.” according to his parents. They added that “The brutalization and terrorism the North Koreans have put upon Otto and the Warmbier family have ended. Thank God,” the parents told CNN.

The coma could have been the result of an accident. The North Koreans claim it was.

One has to wonder why he went to North Korea in the first place. Naivèté we suppose.

The 22-year old U.S. citizen was detained in January 2016 at the airport in Pyongyang after security footage allegedly showed him trying to steal a banner with a political slogan hanging in the hotel.

The family said they were told by North Korean officials — through contacts with American envoys — that Warmbier fell ill from botulism sometime after his March trial and fell into a coma after taking a sleeping pill. The Warmbiers said they were told their son has remained in a coma since then.

He had been charged with “hostile acts against the state”, confessed, found guilty and sentenced to 15 years hard labor.
