“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine.” ~ Ronald Reagan
The American Spectator points out in an article today that the Democrat platform is now making guns into a public health threat. The Spectator reported the following, noting that this is the first time the Democrat Party had formally categorized gun control as a public health issue.
Under the heading, “Ensure the Health and Safety of All Americans,” the following sentence appears: “There is insufficient research on effective gun prevention policies, which is why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] must have the resources it needs to study gun violence as a public health issue.” This attempt to pitch gun control as a public health crisis is not new, of course. Two years ago, the Democrats introduced a bill that would have provided the CDC with $10 million a year to study gun crime from the public health perspective. And, in June of this year, the American Medical Association declared that gun violence is a public health crisis.
The Spectator points to the absurdity of calling it an “epidemic.”
And the claim that gun violence is an epidemic is, quite frankly, an insult to the intelligence of the voters. It is nothing more than a pseudo-scientific veneer that Clinton and the co-conspirators who cobbled together the Democrat Party platform have attached to a transparently political project. To illustrate just how absurd it is to use such terms as “epidemic” in discussions about gun control, Dr. Paul Hsieh asks the following question in Forbes: “Which of these things is not like the other? (1) Measles, (2) Influenza, (3) Tuberculosis, (4) Murder. If you picked #4, ‘murder,’ you’re right. The first three are medical diseases. In contrast ‘murder’ is not a medical problem, although it is a tragic cause of death.”
As if losing the Supreme Court isn’t dangerous enough, this poses an even more serious threat to our Bill of Rights.
The studies they are producing for agencies who now legislate like the EPA are conducted by leftists and they have a pre-determined conclusion.
The stage has been set.
Vivek Murthy, a hack political operative and anti-gun physician, was appointed Surgeon General in December 2014.
Murthy is a disaster for the Second Amendment and will further the Obama anti-gun agenda with the power of the government’s health research arm and a very loud megaphone.
Vivek Murthy, an ally of Barack Obama, is a community organizer of doctors. He is a Boston physician whose only significant achievement is his organizing of Doctors for America, a group that says they are nonpartisan but has openly advocated for Obama. The group started out as Doctors for Obama.
His group successfully fought a proposed Florida law that would have prevented doctors from including in a person’s medical file whether they are a gun owner.
Mr. Obama has politicized every agency of government and now the Surgeon General’s office will be as well.
He’s laying in wait.
Under the banner of Doctors for America, Murthy has referred to guns as a public health threat, and circulated a petition to pressure Congress to pass stricter gun laws. Murthy will undoubtedly push for all doctors to do the same.
His Doctors for America (DFA) has exhibited its extreme agenda, pushing Congress to ban “assault” weapons and “high-capacity” magazines, and to spend more tax dollars for more research proving that fewer guns would lower the crime rate.
Doctors for America, is the Obama-linked sister group to other progressive groups, such as Organizing for America and the Center for American Progress, whose founder, John Podesta, is a senior adviser on the White House staff and a Hillary campaign director. Podesta has sworn to put through Obama’s agenda without Congress.
Murthy and his assistant Rachel Curley are fellows at CAP, a think tank supported by George Soros.
How do you think gun research will go under Murthy?
You can be sure that he will initiate studies that prove the neighborhood doctor is the one to control your gun rights and that guns are a danger to all our health.
His group submitted a plan to cut gun-related deaths in half by 2020. The plan includes the usual litany of time-worn gun control prescriptions with some extreme elements added in for good measure:
- A federal ban on the sale of assault weapons and ammunition
- Buyback programs
- Strengthening “regulations for guns used for hunting, sport, and self-protection”
- Universal background checks and licenses for anyone purchasing guns and ammunition
- Mandatory firearm safety training and testing
- Regulation of private sales and transfers of guns and ammunition
- Mandatory waiting periods of at least 48 hours
- Limits on the purchase of ammunition
- Better policing of neighborhoods with a high concentration of gun violence
- Prohibit laws preventing physicians from discussing gun safety with patients.
- Remove the provision in the Affordable Care Act and other federal policies that prohibit physicians from documenting gun ownership.
- Invest in improving access to mental health resources.
- Reinstating CDC and NIH funding for firearms injury and death prevention research.
- Removing restrictions in the Affordable Care Act and other legislation that prohibits databases and data collection on gun violence programs.
- Ensuring that newly implemented programs are studied carefully to assess impact.
This is where we are headed though the Hillary Supreme Court might overturn Heller first.
