Obama Will Soon End the War on Coal by Destroying All Coal Production

Obama is at war with fossil fuels and his first key battle is against coal, which provides 45% of the electricity in the United States. Obama has succeeded at making it impossible to build new coal plants and he is about to close existing plants.

Last year the EPA passed stringent carbon emissions standards on coal plants that prevented the building of any new coal-fired facilities in the United States. Some of the worst rules, delayed until this year, will increase standards on existing plants so that they are deliberately unattainable – the goal is to close existing plants.

Many existing plants will have no choice but to shut down as opposed to upgrading quickly because they won’t be able to make a profit. If they attempt to meet the standards, the EPA will only continue to throw more rules at them.

Only two new plants can meet the requirements of the EPA.

The rule will require any new power plant to emit no more than 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt of electricity produced. The average U.S. natural gas plant, which emits 800 to 850 pounds of CO2 per megawatt, meets that standard; coal plants emit an average of 1,768 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt.

Natural gas, the next best alternative form of energy, will cost the average consumer twice as much, if Obama lets natural gas continue as is.

Coal has been a source of heat for hundreds of years. Coal plants have made tremendous strides in cleaning up coal but Obama does not care and wants it gone immediately.

Obama believes that the benefits will offset the losses, which is what he has repeatedly said during his ongoing alternative energy fiascos. That is not possible.

Every other form of power is much more expensive. His ultimate goal is to force us to use wind and solar power, which are unsuccessful and simply not ready for market.

The green movement to end fossil fuel usage has been underway since long before Obama came into office but he, with his EPA, have put it on steroids.

Congress refused to pass a cap and trade system so Obama’s EPA is bypassing them with rules that greatly over-extend the legitimate power of any government agency.

Even if Obama went to a more gradual transition from coal to natural gas, it would have eased the economic consequences which some on the left insist will be insignificant. Even natural gas, the next cheapest energy source, is double the cost of coal-powered energy.

Obama claims to support natural gas production but that is not true. Obama hopes to end natural gas subsidies and is opposed to fracking. He will not lease public lands which are replete with natural gas. He has also slowed permits for natural gas drilling.

He has aligned himself with the most extreme elements of his party who claim to be “environmentalists.” He is governing by the rule of the smallest minority of citizens.

When he ran against Governor Romney, he delayed the most egregious EPA rules by one year so the issue would not hurt his re-election chances. He is now ready to unleash this horror on our economy.

West Virginia faces the greatest burden. If West Virginia collapses, do people realize how that will damage the entire United States?

The Democratic coal miners in West Virginia would not endorse either Obama or Romney in 2012, and West Virginia did go for Romney.

Governor Huckabee spoke with two coal miners:

Remember this famous quote –

“..You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know —Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers…”

Does anyone really believe that the cost of energy will be affordable even in the long term if Obama wins on the issue of fossil fuels?
