Outrageous – Obama Administration Will Not Award Benefits To Ft. Hood’s Purple Heart Recipients

Update: 04/16/15: At long last, full benefits have finally been ordered for the Ft. Hood victims. This entire affair has been a disgrace. Read more on this link.

The victims of Fort Hood received their purple hearts Friday in a ceremony at Ft. Hood nearly six years after that horrific day when 13 men and women were killed and 31 others were wounded. Shawn Manning is one of the victims who was shot 6 times by radical Islamic terrorist Nadal Hassan but he won’t be receiving his benefits.

In a letter from the Secretary of the Army, he was informed that he is not eligible. This is unheard of. Military who receive the Purple Heart are always awarded the added benefits because the medal is given to those who were hurt or killed in combat.

We do not leave our men behind or our Purple Heart recipients behind, at least we didn’t until Barack Obama and his PC garbage infested our government institutions.

The medal was denied them all these years – the incident having taken place on November 5, 2009 – because the White House’s Pentagon declared it ‘workplace violence’. Since then, the government has said there was nothing in the law allowing the awarding of the medal even based on terrorism.

Despite resistance from some on the left, Congress finally passed an addendum to the NDAA legislation awarding the victims the Purple Heart. Congress’s intention was to provide benefits along with the medal.

The Secretary of the Army is now going to make these men and women suffer through hearings and perhaps be denied in the end.

The White House via their minions in the Pentagon have deceived the public as they bow to the altar of political correctness.

This administration refuses to acknowledge the existence of radical Islamic terrorism despite the fact that vile acts of terrorism are being committed by radical Islamists and not by Tea Party people as he would have the public believe.

In 2012, Pentagon press secretary George Little said survivors of the Ft. Hood shooting are “eligible for the same medical benefits as any service member” and nothing more.

The Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dep. 2010 – 2012 pamphlet acknowledges that combat benefits are given to veterans who receive the Purple Heart.

Staff Sgt. Shawn Manning, who was shot six times that day, said his injuries prevented him from continuing to serve but he would not receive the benefits of those severely wounded on the battlefield because of the false designation of the event as “workplace violence”.

He is still being denied along with others wounded and the survivors of those killed.

But the National Counterterrorism Center’s 2009 Report on Terrorism called the Fort Hood shooting a “high fatality terrorist attack.” The shooting also was mentioned in the State Department’s “Country Reports on Terrorism 2009.”

The Obama administration refused to recognize it as such.

The Army could have issued a guidance memorandum as they did in the case of victims suffering concussions. They could have clarified or they could have issued a new rule but they refused to do so.

What are these men and women fighting for?

The administration that was so concerned about giving spousal benefits for gay couples in the military, will not give benefits to victims of terrorism. The government that is forcing us to pay for healthcare for illegal immigrants, won’t pay for the healthcare of these victims. The government that gave the terrorist, Nadal Hassan, benefits while awaiting trial, benefits which he got to keep, will not do the same for the victims. The president who has a pen and phone will pick it up for enemies and invaders but not for our courageous military.

Two Ft. Hood victims killed themselves over these last six years. If they got their benefits, would they have lived? A Physician’s Assistant died that day tackling Nadal Hassan to keep him from killing others. There are so many other stories of bravery by these victims. All the victims were unarmed.
