Portland Schools Bans Anti-Climate Change Materials – Wait Until You Hear Who Is Behind It



They didn’t burn the books because it would have been so Nazi-like. However, they have banned all the materials and books which offer dissenting opinions on climate change.

All materials that cast doubt on climate change are to be eliminated and barred from the Portland Public Schools according to the Portland Tribune.

The school district will remove all texts and materials that dare suggest climate change is not taking place and human beings are not responsible.

The stories about this new action claim environmentalists are behind the push but in fact these are very far-left political activists who use eco-literacy as a cudgel.

Bill Bigelow, a former PPS teacher and current curriculum editor of Rethinking Schools, a magazine devoted to education issues, worked with 350PDX and other environmental groups to present the resolution.

“A lot of the text materials are kind of thick with the language of doubt, and obviously the science says otherwise,” Bigelow says, accusing the publishing industry to bowing to pressure from fossil fuels companies. “We don’t want kids in Portland learning material courtesy of the fossil fuel industry.”

In board testimony, Bigelow said PPS’ science textbooks are littered with words like might, may and could when talking about climate change.

“‘Carbon dioxide emissions from motor vehicles, power plants and other sources, may contribute to global warming,’” he quotes Physical Science published by Pearson as saying. “This is a section that could be written by the Exxon public relations group and it’s being taught in Portland schools.”

Bill Bigelow is the author or co-editor of several Rethinking Schools books: A People’s History for the Classroom, The Line Between Us: Teaching About the Border and Mexican Immigration, Rethinking Columbus, Rethinking Globalization: Teaching for Justice in an Unjust World, and Rethinking Our Classrooms–Volumes 1 and 2. Bigelow lives in Portland, Oregon, and has taught high school social studies since 1978, according to the Rethinking Schools website.

America-hater, Bill Bigelow of the Zinn Education Project, wants fireworks stopped on July 4th – Independence Day – because we are all supposedly too war-weary.

He would have us believe that George Washington was a war criminal and Thomas Jefferson plagiarized the Declaration of Independence.

Bigelow wrote a piece, entitled, “Rethinking 4th of July, which is nothing more than communist propaganda. Our War of Independence was won by a war criminal – George Washington – according to him.

Calling George Washington a war criminal is in reference to the “scorched earth campaign” of John Sullivan. The Iroquois Confederacy was brought into the Revolutionary War by the British to serve as their allies. Our fighters for independence were at war with the Iroquois Confederacy.

Thomas Jefferson wasn’t a genius, he says, and he basically plagiarized the Declaration of Independence. The Revolutionary war wasn’t led by those not-so-great men – Washington, Franklin, Jefferson – it was led by the collective. There weren’t leaders and followers, every single person was a leader. This is what Bigelow wrote in his piece and this is what he is putting into our K-12 texts.

That is aimed at destroying our sense of pride in our Founding Fathers, our Constitution, and what America has stood for, while promoting the idea of collectivism.

More enslaved Africans fought with the British than colonists, he wrote, and our history is of racism and hypocrisy. He wants to further damage our views on the War of Independence. He wants Americans to be ashamed.

What Bigelow doesn’t say is that the Founding Fathers knew slavery was wrong but believed that they could not take it on and maintain freedom from the British. The nation was too weak and too young.

Bigelow then quotes communist and Hugo Chavez-lover, Danny Glover on what July 4th means to him:

“To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sound of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass-fronted impudence; your shout of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanks-givings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy—a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.”

Bigelow is a prolific writer against America and has put out books making Americans into imperialistic enslavers of Latinos and Blacks. He takes tidbits from the worst of our history and makes it into a whole, diminishing any good from our founding. Bigelow even claims the United States finished its war against Mexico to steal land and spread slavery. He is one of those who is promoting the illegal immigration into the United States and he is a promoter of LaRaza educators and open borders.

The Zinn project is also flavored with names such as Teaching a Peoples’ History, Rethinking Our History, and Common Dreams, is being adopted as part of elementary and secondary curricula by teachers and even entire districts.

Bigelow’s work can be found by googling. I won’t link to this leftist. People like Bigelow are destroying America with their negative, hate-filled messages and they are being lauded for it in outlets such as Huffington Post.

Rethinking Schools is the Zinn Project, which you can easily find by googling. It promulgates the Marxist version of U.S. history and promotes Marxist theories like redistribution. They are making inroads in our nations’ schools.

It has gradually infiltrated the public school system and private schools as well, particularly in poor minority areas.

Rethinking Schools teams with Teaching for Change, which publishes lesson plans that portray the U.S. as human rights abusers on a par with terrorist nations. Teaching for Change recently published a lesson plan for schools about Ferguson and the Michael Brown shooting which condemns law enforcement as brutal and unfair. It encourages students to follow the Marxist ten-point framework of the Black Panthers.

Zinn was an America-basher, a dangerous one. So are his followers who keep the flame alive.

Bigelow is also the co-author of a textbook on environmental education, A People’s Curriculum for the Earth. Asked if this resolution will cause the district to buy new textbooks, such as his book, Bigelow said Rethinking Schools is a nonprofit, not a money-maker.

Bigelow rewrites U.S. history, demonizing our Founding Fathers and the principles our government are founded on, and then gives his propaganda away for free.

Bigelow and Rethinking Schools are very, very far left.



He and his ilk are now working on indoctrinating students in the area of Climate Change which is being used to put the populace under the complete control of centralized government.

The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) has a petition that currently lists nearly 32,000 signers, including 9,000 Ph.D.s, who say, “there is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.”

The EPA is now pushing the public health issue to push their mantra.

A board member named Mike Rosen heads up an eco-literacy project. He too needs to be looked at closely.
