Wasil Farooqui, 20, stabbed two people, a man and a woman, in Roanoke Virginia and some reports noted that he appeared to be attempting to behead them in the name of ISIS as he yelled, “Allahu Akbar.”
The FBI is investigating this man who has been on the FBI watch list after having attempted travel to Syria last year via Turkey to meet with ISIS militants.
The attack would have been far more tragic if they man hadn’t fought off Farooqi.
According to WDBJ, Farooqui told authorities he was hearing voices telling him he was stupid and urging him to attack people. He had left his home “to clear his head” and took a butcher knife from his kitchen before arriving at The Pines apartments, where the attack took place, according to a search warrant.
He didn’t know the victims and claimed he didn’t know why he attacked them.
Amy Whitaker, a spokeswoman for the city of Roanoke, told CBS News that despite earlier reports, the attack was not an attempted beheading.
“The male victim suffered multiple lacerations all over his body, including his neck, but this did not appear to be an attempt at a beheading,” according to Whitaker.
