With a population of 3.2 million, Puerto Rico fell under U.S. sovereignty in 1898 following the Spanish-American War, transitioning from Spanish rule established by Christopher Columbus in 1493, who christened it San Juan Bautista under a Royal decree, Express.co.uk reports.
A group of activists on the island, organized as Adelante Reunificationistas (Forward Reunificationists), have said the best way forward for Puerto Rico is to rejoin Spain. They say they have the support of 13% of the population.
Rejoining Spain is seen as a route to a more equitable and flourishing future. “Puerto Rico never wanted to separate from Spain,” declares José Lara, president of the organization.
Mr. Lara contends that Puerto Rico has been stuck in a state of stagnation since becoming a US territory, enduring over a hundred years “of subjugation” under an American administration that denies them full citizenship rights.
Who is going to defend them? It’s likely a ploy to become a state or be able to vote for Democrats.

Note the word “Forward” in the party name. What they really want is to be another Cuba. The graft is illegal now. It won’t be if they get more power. The problem with PR is leftist/Socialist governments that have controlled the island for just about forever. The Dems in the US would love to have statehood. The leaders on the island want another Cuba. Meanwhile the average mook just muddles along voting for who ever they are told to vote for. Better to just cut them loose and they will become another Cuba or Haiti (brain drain- the smarter ones leave, leaving the low IQ turds to multiply) I doubt seriously that Spain would take them back.
Sound like a good idea to me, being the US taxpayer undoubtedly spends more on public assistance to Puerto Ricans than the territory contributes to America’s economy.
