Ex-Rabbi Co-founder of a private equity firm explains why he acquired Pornhub

Solomon Friedman is one of the new owners of PornHub. He is an attorney and rabbi (some reports say he is a former rabbi). His private equity firm took over Mindgeek, the umbrella company of virtually every porn site.

He vowed to save PornHub from ruin and make it a better place. What he means by a better place might not be what most people think is “better.”

In the clip below, Solomon coaches defense attorneys of pedophiles on how to get lesser sentences for their sex offender clients. When the prosecutor next to him argues that the 30-day sentences for pedophiles back in 2009 weren’t enough, Solomon jokes, “the good old days.” (No one laughs…)

Nothing against rabbis since he’s rogue; we have rogue priests in my religion, but how do people reconcile this with religion? It’s not funny. It ruins children’s lives.

According to Yahoo Finance, this is why he bought it:

“When a potential MindGeek acquisition became available, we took an open-minded, unbiased look at it,” says Friedman. “What we found absolutely blew our minds. We found a company that had created the best-in-class online trust and safety automation tools. … We’re of the belief that these tools must be shared with the larger internet.”

The tools, he says, are designed to verify the identity of the people in videos, as well as their age and consent to posting, using both human and automated checks. They also create digital fingerprints to flag pre-existing content to combat piracy and have a portal designed to help law enforcement officials collect necessary data.

“We see enormous value beyond the adult industry for those tools,” he says. “We see enormous value in the online trust and safety tool. I have no doubt that people are going to be hearing more about that and its applications well beyond adult. We feel we have a responsibility to develop those tools beyond their current uses.”

He’s also looking at it going mainstream:

While ECP sees value in the technology behind Pornhub and other MindGeek properties, it’s not discounting the substantial revenues in the content itself. Friedman notes that just a few years ago, cannabis was a taboo subject in Canada and much of the U.S., but has since become one that is openly discussed. The private equity firm believes adult entertainment is on the cusp of that same sort of mainstreaming.

“We’re of the view that there’s real potential for adult audiences,” he says. “Adults need a place on the internet. And the opportunity for creating those spaces and ensuring those are safe and stigma-free has real potential.”

So, it’s for money, the tools, and mainstreaming porn? Didn’t Sodom and Gomorrah happen because this stuff went mainstream?

Correction: Mr. Friedman is only a partial owner. The headline was changed to clarify. Also, he rejected the teachings as a rabbi.

“Nobody laughed”? I did. That was hilarious.

The article is a very thinly veiled antisemitic attack. And, no, porn is not what caused Sodom and Gomorrah.

Sodom and Gomorrah was about hospitality. Go back to the original texts.

Satan – not real. Really. Isn’t it odd that there is NOTHING written in the bible that could not have been written by someone living in the 1st century? Why is that? Why is the bible filled with so much utter nonsense.

The Men of the City also wanted to “know” the guests…that is they wanted to rape them…they refused the offer by the not so great Lot of his Virgin daughter to play with….they wanted the Men….

So yes worse than Heterosexual Porn…but Pornography is not wholesome by a long shot.

I don’t see that, and I am an Orthodox Levite. Please see my comment under M Dowling . There is a lot of REAL anti Jewish material out there, this does not even get close to that…

Just remember Ezra ( known the Scribe, the Kohain, and the Chassid) had to collectively slap the Israelites in the face by using his power granted by the Persian King…this is nothing new. If only we had the leadership that could bring the Children of Israel back to the proper path…

The Concert for Peace” close to Gaza should never have been allowed for security purposes…let alone from a religious standpoint it was on Shabbat ( Sabbath) AND a holy Festival ( Shemini Atzeret) So a lot of Violating Shabbat there.

I still feel bad for those people, just like I feel bad for the Bedouin in Rahat that were attacked as well ( and many tried to help those fleeing the Concert)….over 22 communities inside 1948 Israel over run, 2 cities infiltrated, at least 2 IDF bases taken over…young soldiers ( new recruits slaughtered in their bunks with grenades, etc.).

The Sate of Israel violated NUMEROUS principles of the Torah…Not letting most of it’s people have personal arms…and letting the concert happen on the Sabbath and Holiday Violations…and with all the warnings they got before from Egypt, from their own IDF Spotters, etc., etc..

Stupidity on both the Tactical and Spiritual level will be punished.

Quick reaction “Tequila teams” were dispatched 4 hours before the attack, but no one else was warned…not the New army recruits on the border asleep in bed, and not the party goers. Those Tequila teams were mopped up by Hamas..and masses of Gazans that followed them.

#1 Sin: Not caring enough about their own people ( Not loving your fellow as yourself!). Pulling Jews out of there homes Gaza in 2005, denying communities along the border weapons, not warning soldiers and party goers….even if it was just 4 hours warning…that is plenty of time to be on alert and would have saved some lives.(!)

#2 Sin: Violation of the Shabbat/ Sabbath and Festive combined day.

Yes this is where “Gods plan” comes in…but we all get a piece of the punishment…”All of Israel are Partners in everything” is one of our principles. That means when someone does something wrong, and gets no rebuke from the masses, we all get punished.

God has blessed Jews. They have a great potential for good and a very great potential for evil. Therein lies their dilemma.

Not very profound. Jews can pick good or evil? That’s a human capacity and applies to also to non-Jews

Many modern Rabbi’s say the same thing…although they have been influenced by the overlay of the Zohar and eastern philosophy ( etc.) upon real Kabalah. Still, they have a point…

Look at how the REAL Amalek is called “first among nations…” Numbers (Bamidbar) 24:20 They too had great potential but misuse it. Just look how they instigated the Edomites to slaughter Jews in Europe not long ago…they are unfortunately natural leaders…used as a hammer against the Israelites as Punishment.

This guy Friedman is not smart. Bragging on his bio page about becoming a Rabbi in 2005 in Israel. While there were Conservative “Masorti” institutions back then in Israel, this guy Looks like he grew up Orthodox Home…and the Chutzpa to be involved in “Ethical” Pornography, some of which will include Toaiva ( abominations).

Let us also not forget Hashem ( God) blessed all humans ( like with Adam “Be fruitful and Multiply”…etc.), same with Noah. Later Shem, Yafeth / Japheth, Edom and Ishmael, all Received blessing, but a blessing non the less.

The Blessings the Children of Israel received are dependent on our actions, not unlike what was said about Abraham …

Genesis / Berashet 18:19

19 For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which He hath spoken of him.’
