Colossal Stupidity by the US in Syria as Russia Attacks Our Allies

Josh Earnest said Putin is acting from a position of weakness as Russia attacks U.S. allies in Syria.

“This is a client state in utter chaos,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday. “Russia is not flexing its muscles when it comes to Syria, but it’s propping up an investment about to go south.”

Ash Carter said Wednesday that he “trusted” the Russians and would continue talks!!!

One of the leading Western activists in Syria was killed in the Russian strikes Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the oblivious Secretary of State John Kerry said Russian President Vladimir Putin’s involvement in Syria was a possible “opportunity” for the United States.

He actually seems unaware that this was a possibility.

By Wednesday, he was saying this at a U.N. Security Council meeting: While the U.S. welcomes “genuine efforts” to fight ISIS, also known as ISIL, “we must not be confused in our fight against ISIL with support for Assad.”

Russia just attacked our allies in Syria and it was all so predictable that the Sentinel predicted it several times.

In a dramatic escalation of the war in Syria, Russia has launched a series of airstrikes that it said were aimed at Islamic State terrorists but which mainly to hit less extreme groups fighting Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the Guardian reports.

It’s the first assault by Russia since they moved their military into Syria and it follows Putin’s clever speech at the U.N.

Reports from the ground indicate that the Russian forces attacked the Free Syrian Army, the main opposition to Assad. A resident of Talbiseh in Homs said two airstrikes primarily hit residential areas of the town, killing about 20 people.

Russia claimed the targets were ISIS.

At the Pentagon, US officials said the strikes did not appear to be targeting areas held by ISIS forces, and expressed dissatisfaction as if anyone cares about their dissatisfaction.

“We must not and will not be confused in our fight against Isil with support for Assad,” said the US secretary of state, John Kerry.

The bbc has also reported that Russia is attacking anti-Assad forces. This is after Obama told Putin and the UN that Assad must go.

Our government has to know this.

This is a day after Defense Chief Ash Carter said he was establishing a communications channel with his Russian counterpart to “deconflict” any overlapping airstrikes.

A US defense official said:

“While we would welcome a constructive role by Russia in this effort [to deconflict strikes], today’s demarche hardly seems indicative of that sort of role and will in no way alter our operations.” He added that the strikes underscored the need for “meaningful deconfliction discussions very soon”, the guardian reported.

We look like complete fools, our reaction adds to that, and we can’t do a thing about it. The reason Russia brought in weaponry to destroy air strikes was to deter the U.S. In May, Turkey said the US agreed to provide air cover for anti-Assad “rebels” in Syria. We certainly can’t do that now.

Obama has made a violent dictator, Vladimir Putin, the most important man in the world and he has sealed the fate of many innocent Syrians, including the Kurds and Assyrian Christians.

Hamas is also in Syria and there are reports that China will join the fight soon.

Early in September, Business Insider reported: Russia is providing “serious” training and logistical support to the Syrian army, Vladimir Putin has said, in the first public confirmation of the depth of Russia’s involvement in Syria’s civil war.

Ash Carter said Wednesday that the US will continue to provide air cover for anti-ISIS coalition. He also said he “trusted” the Russians! There will be no consequences for what the Russians did and the talks will continue. He said there is “an internal conflict” in the Russian military.

The refugee crisis will get a whole lot worse. Now that our attention is refocused, will Putin be getting ready to attack Ukraine. Putin needs Ukraine back.

Russians told the U.S. to get out.

“[W]e are going to be engaging Russia to let them know that you can’t continue to double-down on a strategy that is doomed to failure. …”

– Barack Obama, on Russia’s escalating level of military support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Sept. 11, 2015
