We reported yesterday that Newsweek claimed Facebook was enveloped in a so-called scandal for letting fake news sites go wild during the election cycle. As we wrote, it was likely an excuse to shut down Conservative and Libertarian sites.
Censorship is a serious concern. As it is, Conservative websites don’t come up on Google’s first, second, third pages very often. Wikileaks showed us how biased Google is. The CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, was playing on Hillary’s team during the election cycle.
Google,Facebook and Twitter announced changes today to searchability of phony news coming across their platforms.
They announced that “Moving forward, we will restrict ad serving on pages that misrepresent, misstate, or conceal information about the publisher, the publisher’s content, or the primary purpose of the web property,” the company said in a statement.
Google has also committed to tweaking its search algorithms.
Twitter also announced Tuesday that it would update its “mute” function for users to hide content they do not want to see. On Tuesday Twitter announced it was rolling out new tools for reporting abuse on its network and later that day it suspended numerous “alt-right” accounts. Then Facebook came under fire after a report exposed it knew how to combat fake news articles,
In a now widely-circulated Google Doc, Melissa Zimdars, a leftist assistant professor of communication at Merrimack College in Massachusetts, has put together a list of “false, misleading, clickbait-y, and/or satirical ‘news’ sources.”
On the list are Project Veritas (James O’Keefe), Independent Journal Review, Breitbart (who’s CEO is now Trump’s chief strategist), Infowars, the Blaze, BizPacReview, Conservative Outfitters, Twitchy, Drudge Report, Zerohedge, World Net Daily, and many others, some of which are sketchy, but almost all were Conservative and Libertarian news, information and commentary websites.
Putting Drudge on the list is particularly ridiculous. It’s a news aggregate that leans right.
It is not known what websites will be considered “fake news” but none of the sites on the list should be banned or sent into relative obscurity. Many are excellent sources of information and the commentary is appreciated by many on the right.
While this professor picked out some left-wing sites, they are sites not equal in popularity to the right-wing sites listed above. It is particularly interesting that very far-left, corrupt websites were not on the list, such as Media Matters, Mother Jones, Daily Kos. Websites like Slate and Salon are hard-left propaganda websites and they are not on the list, but Independent Journal Review and The Blaze are.
The Democrats are out to obliterate websites they don’t like. They are the party of Fascists. One only has to look at the bills they have tried to pass to remove all legal protections from bloggers and the FCC’s efforts to take away free speech from political opponents as two examples. Now that many in Fox News have moved to the left, and outside of Talk Radio, these websites offer another viewpoint, which is exactly what the left does not want.
