In Sweden, while not calling it radical Islamic terrorism, officials now admit the truck killer expressed sympathies with extremist organizations, among them Islamic State, but they didn’t see him as a threat.
The migrant from Uzbekistan is named Rakhmat Akilov and has asked for his defense lawyer to be replaced by a Sunni Muslim, but a court denied his request, documents showed.
So, he’s a Sunni Muslim, though Swedish authorities aren’t saying that.

The attack shattered any sense Swedes had of being insulated from the militant violence that has hit other parts of Europe but politicians have taken a defiant stance, saying Sweden will remain an open, tolerant society.
