ABC News chief national correspondent Tom Llamas told the Houston police about looters who had just entered a store in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

“We informed police of the looting and Coast Guard is flying overhead. Multiple officers now on the scene,” Llamas tweeted and later deleted.

Llamas was blasted by his thousands of followers for “ratting” on the criminals so he added this: “Let me clear this up- we were w/ police who had discovered a dead body & mentioned we saw ppl w/ faces covered going into a supermarket nearby.”

Within a half hour, he had another thousand responses to that, almost all negative and very nasty.  He has deleted some of his tweets but put another one up which has 2.4k responses, almost all negative.

One commenter wanted to know if Mr. Llamas asked whether the store had insurance as if it’s okay to loot if the insurance company is paying.

The reporter was called a “snitch”, a “rat”, some assumed the looters were “starving”, and others used vulgar words we can’t repeat.

An author for The Wrap also condemned him saying some reporters go to jail protecting sources as if that had some kind of relationship.

This is very discouraging and a bad sign for the future of the United States.

Here are a few of the responses:
