John Lewis Calls Donald Trump Illegitimate

Donald Trump has responded to John Lewis’s comments yesterday. He is trying to delegitimize Donald Trump’s election. Trump used one fact against Rep. Lewis, his district is one of the top murder capitals of the nation.

A civil rights hero of the 1960s, Rep. John Lewis on Friday told NBC News he wouldn’t attend next week’s inauguration, saying he doesn’t believe Trump is a “legitimate president.” “I believe in forgiveness. I believe in trying to work with people. It will be hard. It’s going to be very difficult. I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president,” Lewis said.

“I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton,” he added.

“I don’t plan to attend the inauguration. It will be the first one that I miss since I’ve been in Congress. You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong, is not right.”

Donald Trump Responds

Some people believe that because he is a legend who fought hard and bravely, he’s untouchable. People felt that way about Sen. John McCain because of his courageous war service, but it didn’t stop Trump from verbally blasting him. Donald Trump doesn’t follow the rules. He responds in kind.

Thus, as expected, the President-elect responded to John Lewis on twitter. As has become his practice, he goes directly to the people. The media are reduced to repeating his tweets and analyzing them.

A sidenote to all this is Lewis shot off vicious comments against Donald Trump and Trump responded with the truth, but the media is portraying it as Trump abusing a civil rights icon.

One of the Nation’s Top Murder Capitals

John Lewis’s district is the 5th Congressional. It is based in central Fulton and parts of Dekalb and Clayton counties and also includes the state capital and largest city of Atlanta, as well as many of the surrounding suburbs.

As of 2016, ballotpedia notes 85.7% complete high school, 38.1% complete a 4-year college; unemployment is 15.5% while the national rate is 4.7%; the median income is  $40,708 while the national rate is $50,000; the district is 58.3% black and 33% white.

The overall crime rate is down, but, according to ajc, Atlanta has been named one of America’s top “MURDER CAPITALS”. Homicide rates are rising due to The Ferguson Effect.

In addition John Lewis is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and is anti-Capitalism which has not helped grow his district economically. Socialism doesn’t work.

Do you believe Lewis deserved Trump’s response? Many in the press are attacking Trump for insulting a great man.

However, Rep. Lewis always plays the race card and relies on the welfare state.
