A Texas Mayor is in trouble for quoting accurately from the Bible. He adheres very strictly to the Bible but doesn’t want his opinion or quote to be considered anti-woman. He just wants to be allowed to offer his opinion. He offended some people and they are calling for his head.
Wylie, Texas, Mayor Eric Hogue’s remarks were made in an email to fellow city council members, which was then shared publicly on Facebook this week, NBC local reported.
The city’s mayor pro tem, Jeff Forrester, asked for Hogue’s thoughts on having members of the Christian missionary group, Youth With a Mission, lead the next prayer that starts each next council meeting.
“Sounds good. I would like that. All I asked is that those leading the public prayer be young men,” Hogue responded. He took that from the Bible and takes it literally.
Hogue, a minister of Cottonwood Church of Christ and a magician, followed up in the email by quoting two New Testament verses that he said his congregation takes “literally.”
This may not be your religion or mine, but he has the right to offer his opinion. At least that used to be the case. As a woman, I totally reject this literal interpretation, but as an American, I support his right to say it.
If people find him to be a bad mayor because of his beliefs, they can vote him out. Actually, he is not running again. What is your opinion?
You could call him an ageist or a sexist but he is following his religion and you could be wrong. He defended his viewpoint, as we said, by noting that he takes the New Testament literally in his religion.
“What I will say is a woman can do absolutely anything and everything but if we’re in a public setting, in a religious setting, the bibles teaches that she’s not to say a public prayer or to lead the singing or to deliver the sermon,” Mayor Hogue said.
He just offered an opinion and did not try to ban any woman.
Mayor Hogue said this is all politically-motivated by people upset the May election of a new mayor had to be pushed back to November because of the pandemic.
He is also NOT seeking re-election.

Does the Bible really teach what Mayor Hogue says it does? Check out the below post for an alternative perspective.

I believe this issue can be made very simply.
#1 – The Mayor is exercising his rights to speak on what he believes as a Christian based on the word of God from the Bible. See 1 Timothy 2: 9-15 KJV and 1 Corinthians 14: 34-35 KJV
#2 – The rebuttal to the Mayor – in every case that i have read and heard, comes from the view of expression that the Mayor is wrong and he is simply being anti-woman.
This type of disagreement, is in large part, a huge part of what splits this country right now and it is certainly going to get worse as the moral separation continues to grow. The Bible tells us all how we SHOULD live. Society tells us all how we DESERVE to live. Unfortunately, those two clash dramatically with many issues of our time and it will continue to clash even more prominently than it is today.
Every person must choose their own way – and will most assuredly be held accountable for their choices. The Mayor has made his choice known loud and clear – and bless him for doing so; if only all of the world could be so committed to what they believe.
Now the rest of us will make our choices based upon what we believe. And as the saying goes, “As for our house, we will follow the Lord.”
If you intend to recite scripture do it without sugar-coating the word.In many places of worship for example, women wear clothing that appears to be the same clothing men are wearing. That is not acceptable in the House of Prayer. Today that may appear as an insult, an embarrassment to the ladies. Some men dress up as though they’re going to a kid’s birthday party. Paul told Timothy to be bold in preaching the word. Let opposition arise, but the true Christian will stand firm as a rock. Without obedience to His commandments no worship can be pleasing to God..
He made a request based on what he understood to be Bible teaching, he wasn’t going to use his authority as Mayor to stop women from leading the prayer. So I guess Mayors in the 21st Century are going to be labeled sexist for merely making such a request. I happen to agree with his interpretation, but the passage was meant for worship in an assembly. Not an organized prayer at a town meeting.
If he were a Muslim quoting the Koran he would not be questioned.
