Ukraine is facing collapse. Barack Obama is considering sending defensive weapons, but that will probably never come to pass. NATO for the most part only wants a political solution, not a military one, while Putin only believes in military solutions.
That is the great disconnect which will destroy not just Ukraine, but the west. Lenin was right when he said, “The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.”
Kiev will collapse if weapons are not supplied by the west.
A U.S. State Department official said Thursday there is a ‘grave acceleration’ of fighting on the ground in Ukraine.
Eastern Ukraine is in a “dire” security situation and Russia is failing “miserably” in its seriousness to negotiate an end to the crisis, a senior U.S. State Department official said Thursday.
The official, who spoke to CNN on board U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s plane en route to Kiev, also warned of a “grave acceleration of the fighting on the ground” in Ukraine.
The fighting in Eastern Ukraine is between pro-Russian separatists (comprised of actual Russians) and Ukrainians.
Russians are sending forces and equipment which they deny but is provably happening.
Ukrainians need weapons but, inexplicably, we are only sending humanitarian aid. We are sending blankets, bedding, warm clothing and they need serious arms.
Ukrainian president Poroshenko thinks the U.S. will send weapons.
“I don’t have the slightest doubt that the decision to supply Ukraine with weapons will be made by the United States as well as by other partners of ours, because we need to have the capability to defend ourselves,” Poroshenko said on a visit to Kharkiv, a government-controlled city in eastern Ukraine.
It’s unlikely if one goes by Barack Obama’s previous record of doing nothing about everything that doesn’t concern the welfare state.
Ukraine medics and morgues can’t keep up. The situation is becoming critical.
Reserve call-ups are being increased and there are discussions of including women.
The war in Ukraine is helping to weaken the NATO countries, especially since there is no leadership from the U.S.
Germany, Italy, UK, Hungary and France, are opposed to sending arms. They rarely see a military solution in any fight and they don’t see one in this fight. They want to continue the economic and financial war against Russia instead despite the fact that it is still war and Russia knows it.
Lithuania and Estonia urge the sending of arms because they believe they could be next..
All Ukraine is asking for are conventional weapons — armor and artillery, and ammunition though defensive weapons would be helpful.
Ukrainians have a well-organized fighting force. It’s not the same situation we saw in Syria where the terrorists were hard to distinguish from the moderates.
Obama would rather pretend Russia has not invaded Ukraine. He is comfortably dumb.
The west thinks that supplying weapons precludes a political solution which is exactly the opposite of what would happen.
Peace can be obtained only through strength.
The U.S., Germany and France are all in Ukraine to convince them to join a peace initiative they will present to Putin on Monday.
What they don’t seem to understand is Russia plans to take over Ukraine, first Eastern Ukraine, and then the entire country, piece-by-piece if necessary.

Russia is calling it a civil war. It’s one of their making thanks to their troops and arms.
They are sending endless and countless resupply to their forces in Donbas.
Initially, the separatists had absolutely no war resources on their territory.
Former FSB (Federal Security Force of the Russian Federation) colonel, Strelkov admitted:
“I’ve pulled the trigger of this war. After all, If our squad hadn’t crossed the border, all would end same ways as in Kharkiv, as in Odesa. There would be a few dozens of killed, burned, and arrested. And that would be the end of all this”, — said Strelkov, repeating that “this war was actually started by our squad, and it goes on and on”.
With his usual misguided military prowess, Pope Francis tweeted this about Ukraine, “Victory, defeat are not the right words, only one is peace.”
Russia Today can’t blast that around enough.
The Pope keeps saying “Don’t push for victory” which means surrender to Russia. He has to know that but he doesn’t understand what that means for Ukraine and the west.
There is evidence that planning for the Russian takeover of Crimea began as early as 2005 and it wasn’t because of Kiev’s alleged mistreatment of ethnic Russians.
Russia likes to say that they fear the expansion of NATO to include Ukraine. That’s a straw man. It’s one they used to great success to get the U.S. to abandon the idea of a missile defense system in Eastern Europe.
Barack Obama’s policy of flexibility and non-intervention has allowed Putin free reign in Ukraine but the really important thing for him is that he not speak with Netanyahu who is facing an existential threat from Iran and other terrorists in the region, terrorists, by the way, who we have befriended to various degrees like Qatar, Hamas, Iran the Muslim Brotherhood.
Ukraine’s pro-Russian rebel chief Alexander Zakharchenko, leader of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, said Monday that the country’s leaders are “miserable” Jews.
Kiev’s pro-Western leaders were “miserable representatives of the great Jewish people”, he said.
“I can’t remember a time when Cossacks were led by people who have never held a sword in their hands,” Zakharchenko told a press conference in the eastern rebel stronghold of Donetsk.
Zakharchenko said that the country’s historical nationalists “would turn in their graves if they could see who is running Ukraine.”
Anti-Semitism is alive and well in Ukraine and in Russia.
There is also clear evidence that neo-NAZIs have a role in the Ukrainian government. However, they are small in number. Far-right parties failed to pass a 5% percent barrier to enter parliament.
Only one government minister has links to nationalist parties – though he is in no way a neo-Nazi or fascist. And the speaker of parliament, Volodymyr Groysman, is Jewish. He has the third most powerful position in the country after the president and prime minister, according to the bbc.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t fascists in the Ukraine government and among the fighting force because there are.
The ultra-nationalists are effective, serious fighters. They have 50 battalions.
While they are small in number, they must not be ignored.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman rejected a connection between the five months of unrest and the situation of Ukraine’s 200,000 Jews.
“There is no specific action against Jews which is an outcome of the political crisis,” said Lieberman, a Russian-speaker who grew up in Moldova when it was a Soviet republic.
“What there is, as happens to my regret in every country, is a phenomenon of anti-Semitism which is not necessarily linked to the political events but which, given the political events, of course receives unusual attention,” he told Israel Radio last April.
Anti-Semitism remains a feature of militant nationalism in both Ukraine and Russia.
The Jewish state has tried to keep out of the crisis, wary of upsetting its crucial U.S. ally or Russia.
Jews seem to have no good side but Russia is a terrible choice.
In the end, Russia plans to defeat Ukraine and has already made gestures towards a takeover in the Baltics.
The west will one day be engaged in a full-scale war with Russia if they don’t show strength and recognize that sanctions are war.
Russia for its part has warned the west of “catastrophe” if the west continues to help Ukraine. I predict the west will run scared.
Putin is a serious threat to the west, something the west doesn’t seem to understand.
