American journalist and filmmaker Brent Renaud was shot and killed in a combat zone near Kyiv, Ukraine. The local police chief made the announcement on Sunday.

Andrey Nebitov, who heads the National Police in the Kyiv region, accused Russian troops of killing Renaud in Irpin, Kyiv.

The town has been the target of heavy shelling by Russian forces over the past week.

“A 51-year-old world-renowned media correspondent was shot in Irpin today,” Nebitov wrote on Facebook, adding that “another journalist is injured.”

Nebitov also shared photos of Mr. Renaud’s bloodied body, his U.S. passport, and his press badge labeled The New York Times.

The New York Times issued a statement of sorrow at the news. They also said he wasn’t working on anything for the Times.

This is precisely the location where US forces were working with Ukraine. There are videos of a US regiment in formation in that area. I believe it was sometime After EuroMaidan with the US becoming involved in an ethnic civil war. It’s one thing to get involved in foreign wars, but the US should definitely stay out of civil wars, especially ethnic ones.

Early on Vice News reported how Ukraine military, the counter terrorism forces, were not willing to shoot their own people and disarmed their weapons. Some switched sides. Everything was fine, but Kiev wouldn’t settle for a peaceful resolution and afterwards the Ukrainian National Guard, with it’s Azov Battalion, went in with military attacks on cities. Of course Poroshenko thought it would only take two or three months, but turned into eight years.

As one person on twitter mentions, CBS “inserts” Russia into the story even though the man never mentions “Russia”.
