What You Might Not Know About Tariffs

The US has trade deficits with everyone. The deficit with China is $295.4 billion. It’s 41 billion dollars with Canada. The trade deficit with the EU is $235.6 billion in 2024. The deficit with Ireland is $9 billion, and Vietnam is $111.6 billion.

Our total trade deficit is about $1 trillion.

Everyone is draining our resources while we are $36 trillion in debt with an unsustainable debt service. We are the world’s saps.

President Trump said the US has a $350 billion deficit with Mexico, and he won’t let it happen.

Donald Trump shared a Truth Social post from Scott Adams. It revealed the truth about tariffs.

The White House Explains

Administrations failed to fully leverage America’s economic position as a tool to secure our borders against illegal migration and combat the scourge of fentanyl, preferring to let problems fester.

  • Access to the American market is a privilege. The United States has one of the most open economies in the world and the lowest average tariff rates in the world.
  • While trade accounts for 67% of Canada’s GDP, 73% of Mexico’s GDP, and 37% of China’s GDP, it accounts for only 24% of U.S. GDP. However, in 2023 the U.S. trade deficit in goods was the world’s largest at over $1 trillion.
  • Tariffs are a powerful, proven source of leverage for protecting the national interest.  President Trump is using the tools at hand and taking decisive action that puts Americans’ safety and our national security first.
  • Though previous Administrations have failed to leverage America’s combination of exceptional strength and its unique role in world trade to advance the security interests of the American people, President Trump has not.

A dolt like Baier (Jethro) will not be able to trap Trump on anything.

Jethro was part of the Faux News hit team in the August 2015 first debate. Jethro pushed Trump to support whoever is nominated. But when other candidates insisted they would support the nominee, and later did not support nominee Trump, Jethro had nothing to say.

Baier belongs on some junk local news station. Every single person on OAN is better than him.

Trump is using basic economic fundamentals, which the ivy leaguers who run the USA never learned and do not care about. Trump’s goal is for the USA to win. The goal of elitists is for they themselves to win.

As soon as Brett started asking about when prices will come down I quit listening. I’m sick of these malcontent media slugs asking stupid and nonsensical questions.

Trump has been talking about this for forty or so years. First it was Japan and how they were “ripping us off”. At that time everyone marveled at Japan’s economic system. Many were saying the US should emulate how they run their economy. It wasn’t long before their economy became stagnant. It remained that way for at least a couple decades. So much for the “experts” of the day.

From a constant deficit starting in 1976 (- $1.63 Billlio) to 2024 (
(The cumulative total is -$17,191,000,000. That’s Trillions! and a loss of about 3%/year of our national product.

After trade surpluses for 100 years starting about 1870, we have fallen into deficits for 50 years After at least 50 years of complaining about the negative trade balance, maybe we finally have a president who understands the danger and is doing something about it.
