According to Axios, about 20,000 federal employees have accepted President Trump’s buyout. It’s still only Tuesday, and they have until Thursday.
That number represents about one percent of the workforce.
The White House target was 5% to 10%, but more to the point, they don’t want people who don’t want to work in the facilities as opposed to home or the Caribbean or someplace else. They want people who want to come back to work.
Earlier reports say the union is telling them not to take the offer.
Axios said that the administration expects more to take the offer, given what’s going on with USAID. They didn’t mention the Department of Education, which is going to get an overhaul, also.
The buyout allows federal employees to stop working immediately and get paid through September 30. They will also get benefits.
Critics say it’s illegal, and Congress has to authorize it. The administration says that’s not the case. It’s an executive agency, and the President can control spending.
The Washington Post reports the administration said layoffs are likely if too few quit it retire.

Oh, Come on People … Knock off the Negativity! I have posted more Truthful and Better Material than the Entire Corporate Media! Trumpy is Organizing a Corporate Takeover! Now, you all better hope the Democrats do not put this together or Trumpy could be in Big Trouble!
Banning me would be a Colossal Mistake. Like me or Not ( I actually prefer to be Hated) I am the only source of Truth and Enlightenment Around! Now, that little diddy “above” ( Trumps Corporate Takeover) could make someone lots of money if they publish it and sell it to the Democrats! Connect the Dots.
And, I hope I am WRONG; because I like Trumpy; but I do not Trust Trumpy!
I see lots of people taking this 8 month vacation, then returning to government when everything starts falling apart, demanding double pay, to fix the mess Trump Made.
Now Now … People … Respect the Opinion and Play Nice.
Before you make such an allegation have you read a copy of the contract? If so are there any limitations on future federal employment? Is there any thing to say the adm9onstraion can refuse to rehire them?
Without evidence, you are a distributor of FAKE NEWS, which is disgustingly despicable.
I Dont need to see a contract; because NO CONTRACT can be made to Discriminate! Tis Illegal! And, these people are not being fired for any wrongdoing; so any failure to rehire them for pending future positions they would qualify for would result in a Joint Class Action Lawsuit. No Discrimination Allowed. You cannot label them, Parasites, and Refuse to Rehire them for Future Government positions. Also, any clearances they hold would be valid for future JOB Qulification and those cost lots of money.
So .. What`s Trumpty Dumpty up to? Corporate Takeover?
Trumpy is no Lawyer!
Hope it comes with the caveat “never to be considered for future federal employment or that of a federally contracted company”…
I have seen a lot of Stupid in my Life; but this takes the Cake!
Sounds like you were looking in your mirror as you wrote this…
Good One! I enjoy a Good Sense of Humor! Sadly, No, but, what I am seeing a Corporate Takeover in Progress. Nobody in the media has picked up on this, Yet. Trump was Right when He spoke to His Billionaire Buddies: ” We
re Gonna Make a Hell of a Lot of Money." Think about it. You
ll all support it and pay Government and a Corporate Crime Boss! Its quite ignorant of you to assume that people who work from home are lazy deadbeats. Many employees work from home and many departments are meeting the needs of the people, such as veterans. All you do is foster more hate toward public servants with this kind of talk.
I`d be very worried about what Trumpty is Doing; because it looks like a Corporate Takeover!
Thing is, many of those positions were not work from home, they instituted that during Covid and then just kept “working from home” and the leadership went along with it. Then when faced with the horror of actually having to show up for work, they threw a hissy-fit.
