Update: McCarthy has already lost the 9th vote with two votes for Rep. Hern of Oklahoma and three votes for Donalds. My latest prediction. He’s not going to win today. Instead of having pointless votes, why don’t they hold meetings to come to a solution?
Also, Donald Trump allegedly said he’d accept the Speakership. That won’t happen. It would only polarize people more.
Update: McCarthy lost the 8th vote, with no movement on either side. We’ll just keep updating here. In fact, we think we can now accurately predict he won’t win any votes today.
Watch Live:
It’s a new day and another loss for Kevin McCarthy, his 7th, despite numerous concessions.
Bloomberg wrote that the 20 GOP holdouts that are blocking McCarthy’s bid to become Speaker comes from years of anger at party leadership and “deep suspicions of the veteran lawmaker.”
The group opposing McCarthy’s ascension to the top spot in the chamber has a list of grievances about House rules, anger over uniparty compromises with Democrats, and doubt over McCarthy’s claim to be a true conservative.
So far, the concessions are good ones, and they are needed.
“Mr. McCarthy has a history that is off-putting to some people,” said Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), one of the revolt’s leaders.
Matt Gaetz, one of the most vocal, voted for Donald Trump in this round. That was funny. Gaetz, Perry, and Boebert will likely never vote for Kevin.
Now, we’re facing an 8th vote.
There was no movement.
McCarthy still has 201 votes, Jeffries has 212, Donalds has 19 votes, and one voted for Donald Trump. Victoria Sparks hasn’t voted but will likely vote present again.

It’s being talked about where McCarthy secures to vote by “putting it in writing”. It’s merely a piece of paper with ink on it. We found with Pelosi as speaker that rules voted on can be easily modified anytime during that Congressional term. The Democrats voted to change the rules midstream by simple majority over the objections of the minority.… Read more »
It will take more than just McCarthy putting it in Writing. The rules are too easily changed. It would take a majority of the Republicans to sign on with a Public Reading and a Public Vote. It would also take a Public Vote and Committment that Rukles Package be voted on in total and Future Rule Changes will require a… Read more »
At this point, I don’t think McCarthy can salvage his run for Speaker without severely damaging the Party. What the Beltway insiders don’t want to understand is that Republican Party Leadership is seen by Republicans as the problem with the Party. This can only be solved, for the good of the Party, with a respected outsider, or a very good… Read more »
A thoughtful and appreciated message. Thanks
This group of Congressional assholes should be treated like womens softball. 10-0 is a shutout and game over.
The message is rather simple. Enough of the caucus has rightfully deemed McCarthy untrustworthy. He simply needs to withdraw so the congress can get on with the people’s business.
The claim of numerous concessions is unsubstantiated.
It is another lie. All of those fictitious concessions resulted in no change in the vote.
Maybe the junk Politico publication should focus on the obvious untrustworthiness of Mc.
Biggs made it clear this morning that nothing had changed. Nothing had changed.
I see it now, the failed negotiations last night were reported last night by Gaetz, Boebert and others. Politico is a disreputable source.
Just like in the Ryan days. the RINOs leak stuff to Poliico and it gets reported as real. Later, events show it was not.
The name Newt Gingrich is being thrown around. He’s not my first Choice, but a good one. The Magic of an outside Speaker is he does have to worry about getting reelected. He is free to do what is right. At least Newt Gingrich has a solid record of fiscal responsibility. Who knows, we may find that having outside individual… Read more »
A friend called during lunchtime. He says his wallet is sleeping soundly while the House debates a Speaker. He did have an interesting taught on how to get the “Moderates” to dump McCarthy. With each vote have a Conservative vote for the Democrat – Jeffries. We both agreed that the Conservatives see no difference between McCarthy and a Democrat Speaker,… Read more »
Gingrich = RINO
His insulting talk on Faux News discredited him more than before.
I see Gingrich as an insider who is more flexible than I like, but he has shown the ability to go to the public and have the public pressure their Representative to support his position. McCarthy clearly lacks this ability.
Slither aside you spineless phony republican McCarthy. You are entitled to nothing.
