Yesterday, 2-WAY had a very interesting discusse about Iran’s targeting of US assets in Jordan. The missiles were deflected with only seconds to spare. This took place after President Trump said he wasn’t going to bomb them to give negotiations some space.
President Trump told Fox News, “We are going to beat the F’ing S out of them.” As Halperin said, this is something they say in Queens every other day. As a longtime Queens resident, I agree. He went on to say we’ll be hitting them hard; they’re going to get a beating. They are hitting them and an Iraqi affiliate with Saudi Arabian jets in on the action for the first time.
As for the talks, they’re still going nowhere. The Omanis and Iranians are trying to carve up the Strait, but they can’t agree. Iran wants 4/5ths of the Strait. Meanwhile, Europe will help when the war ends.
As for the financial strain on Iran, it is severe, but most people fear that Iran doesn’t care. They don’t care how much their people suffer; they don’t care if they all die.
President Trump believes that the Iranians are economically suffering as a result of the US naval blockade of their ports; they are losing hundreds of millions of dollars, and it’s the one thing that could end the war. Iran’s about to hit an economic cliff, he believes. Elizabeth Bumiller of the New York Times spoke with Morning Joe and has a different view. She said that this is one of the many, many problems with the war.
Elizabeth Bumiller:
“I mean, this is one of the many one of the many, many problems with this war. Who is in charge here? It’s unclear. You know, and this this this attack happened after President Trump said that we’re going to not announce that he was not going to be attacking Iran, and Iran just ignores him. Once again, the United States looks and looks like it is not in control here, not calling the shots. It is very reactionary, and again, it’s a problem with whatever you can talk to, you know, the negotiators or not, or you can say that they are, you know, you’re working with them in some way…”
Halperin asked the Democrat on the team, Hyma Moore, which side he agrees with. “Which is closer to your view?” He said:
“I think it’s a little bit of both. And and look, we’ve we’ve talked about this, you know, ad nauseum over the last five months. I tend to be very upset that Iran still has the capability to to have us at this point in the war.
“I do think their economy is starting to to fall out, but you know, I guess I’m I’m being I guess I’m obligated to mention Rahm Emanuel each time now. But Rahm Emanuel said yesterday that it’s a it’s a it’s a game of clock right now, and I think the Iranians are waiting out and see how much we can you know take as we get closer to our election and gas prices going up and the economy and things like that and just general sentiment around war in America versus the Iranians just sort of keep going as long as they can, and their objective in this war is much different than ours.
“You know they’re willing to risk everything, including every person they have in that country, and we’re just not willing to do that. And so I think at some point, and I’ve said this many times, the president is going to have to either go in there and just sort of once and for all sort of clear house, or are we going to continue the dance for many months.”
They also mentioned that Reuters claims the Chinese are about to send Iran shoulder-launched missile systems, and they’ll be there in a few weeks.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabai is forming a coalition to keep the Red Sea open.
