Basically, we don’t know much since the July 12th photo of Mitch McConnell looking as chipper as anyone in the 24/7 care unit of a rehabilitation hospital.
We do have a comment from Senator Capito. She spoke to some anonymous person who visited Mitch and said Mitch is “clear-minded.”
“I mean, I think, obviously, the public information, the information that I have, is that Senator McConnell is recovering and is, uh, healing, and is in a, uh, rehabilitation hospital,” Capito, 72, said. “I talked with somebody yesterday who visited him, and said that he’s clear-minded and he just needs to get stronger.”
Very convincing, especially with the hemming and hawing.
Capito did not identify who she said had spoken to McConnell in the hospital, nor did she specify when the visit took place.

On Saturday, July 25, David Popp, a spokesperson for McConnell, shared a statement with The Washington Post.
“The Senator continues to meet with staff regarding Senate and Kentucky business, including discussions on defense appropriations, foreign policy, the farm bill, constituent services and constituent federal grant requests,” Popp explained. “As the Senator continues to improve in rehab, we will be sure to keep you updated.”
Previously, Scott Jennings said he spoke with him and he sounded fine.
One theory for the lack of transparency is Mitch doesn’t want people to see him looking frail.
McConnell was quoted as saying doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him.
Through spokespersons, McConnell disclosed July 12 that he fell at his home June 14, was briefly unconscious and later developed a mild case of pneumonia while hospitalized. He said doctors determined he did not suffer a heart attack, stroke, concussion, hemorrhage or broken bones and later was transferred to a rehabilitation center.
McConnell now has a history of falling and frequently freezing up.
It appears he was wheeled out on a stretcher on July 14th.
It appears he was found unconscious and received CPR for cardiac arrest.
What happens if the 84-year-old resigns or dies now?
If Senator Mitch McConnell resigns, Kentucky’s replacement process triggers a special election rather than an appointment by the governor, leaving the seat temporarily vacant and shifting the balance of power in a closely divided U.S. Senate.
Democrat Governor Beshear would have 30 days to call an election. After August 3rd or later, it would conflict with the November elections. Then the courts would decide.
Republicans didn’t want Beshear to be able to pick a replacement, thus they took that power away.
We are supposed to get an update in a few days.
McConnell’s absence stalled the vote on the SAVE America Act.
