Updates at the end

An armed man named Jeanine was reportedly monitoring “security-planning activities”outside Trump National Golf Course Los Angeles — two days before the president’s visit. He was arrested Sunday with a cache of weapons and body armor.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, from Downey, Calif., was taken into custody outside the Rancho Palos Verdes site by plainclothes FBI agents after they spotted him lurking in the area.

The agents found him with an illegally modified AR platform rifle, two radio signal devices, a 1911 .45 caliber pistol, an AR platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk pistol and rifle ammunition, and multiple notebooks containing concerning statements.

Update

Jeanine was arrested in advance of President Trump’s trip to the Trump National Golf Club had visited the facility twice in three days, wore a radio earpiece, and took photographs of Secret Service agents at the Palos Verdes Peninsula facility, authorities allege.

After arresting him Sunday, authorities said they discovered a cache of firearms at his home along with a security ID.

The weapons were illegal.

Hours before President Trump was scheduled to headline a Tuesday evening fundraiser at his Rancho Palos Verdes golf course, authorities announced that they had arrested Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey after he was found at the club with ammunition in his pocket and a loaded firearm in his pickup truck. He was charged by both federal and local authorities but not in connection with the president.

He was seen scouting out the course on Friday and Saturday before the President’s visit.

Second Update

For nearly a decade, Jeanine John Taele was a U.S. Marine with tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Until July 2025, the Downey resident was licensed to work as an armed security guard.

Then, over the last few days, authorities allege he twice roamed the grounds of Trump National Golf Club in advance of a presidential visit, wearing a radio earpiece, taking photos of Secret Service agents on the grounds and carrying a round of ammunition in his pocket. Taele was arrested Sunday during his second visit to the golf course. Authorities said they discovered a small cache of firearms at his home along with a security ID.

In federal court, Taele is charged with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle, a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. His court appearance was rescheduled from Wednesday to an undetermined date.
