Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Chuck Schumer have a new get-out-the-vote bill called the Restoring Essential Plan Coverage Act. It will secure the vote of foreign-born people who have relatives who came illegally.
Many Americans struggle to pay for healthcare, but Democrats want us to pay for people who came under false pretenses.
It repeals the specific section of H.R. 1 that blocked federal healthcare funding for so-called lawfully present immigrants.
“Lawfully present” is a broad, established legal framework under federal immigration and healthcare laws. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the definition includes a wide range of individuals authorized to reside in the U.S. The terms ‘asylee’ and ‘humanitarian’ were greatly, and one might say unethically, expanded under the past Democrat adminsitration.
What the Democratic administration did under Joe Biden was to cleverly call almost every illegal alien a refugee, asylee, humanitarian parolee, or someone who assisted U.S. forces or needed humanitarian relief. They also gave non-citizens, including illegal aliens, valid work permits or permission to reside.
President Trump has eliminated most of that, but it is ignored by Democrats, blue states, and the media.
If they are legitimate refugees, asylees, et cetera, they are allowed to remain.
Of course, all these people pouring in were not legitimate. Many skipped other countries that were closer; some were criminals and terrorists; others just wanted jobs or to live better. Those aren’t reasons to give refugee, asylee, or humanitarian status. Many were told to say they were asylees when they clearly weren’t. I don’t blame the illegal aliens. I blame the far-left Americans who made it happen.
This bill will pass in our one-party state, and Americans will be forced to give Medicaid to nearly half a million people here illegally. It won’t pass now, but this is where we are headed.
