Numerous 9/11 families announced in an exclusive report from the New York Post last month that they wanted to ban Mamdani from attending ceremonies on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack on the Twin Towers, which left 2,977 people dead.
One of the men quoted in the report — who lost his wife on 9/11 — claimed Mamdani failed to “meaningfully acknowledge the horror of that day.” The man also cited the mayor’s association with left-wing influencer Hasan Piker, who controversially said the U.S. deserved 9/11 before eventually walking back those comments.
Mamdani skipped the 1993 World Trade Center bombing memorial months ago, but vows he will be at the 9/11 ceremony to represent New Yorkers.
Reporters came across Curtis Sliwa in the City and asked him what he thought. He called the push to ban Mamdani “ridiculous,” while talking with reporters Thursday, adding:
“He’s the mayor. Stop being sore losers! You knew this is Zohran Mamdani. He was never a fake, phony, fraudulent, fugazi like a lot of politicians. He told you who he was. Once he got elected, you should have known he was going to be there at 9/11. Now, if you choose to turn your back on him, I don’t want to ever tell family members what they should be doing on this holiday — not holiday, but this solemn occasion — that’s your choice. But I believe you respect the office. He’s the mayor. He’s representing the city.”
Sliwa should stay in the basement with his cats. Mamdani doesn’t represent these people, and no one thinks Sliwa is relevant.

He doesn’t even attend America-themed parades.
When Zohran Mamdani had an opportunity to address 9/11, he made it about so-called Islamic suffering and his aunt. He pals around with Hasan Piker, who said Americans deserved 9/11, and hates America, Jews, and anything American.
Zohran Mamdani’s mother said he doesn’t view himself as American. He sees himself as Ugandan and Indian. He is actually 100% Indian but was born in Uganda to a class of people who didn’t respect the poor of Uganda. During his mayoral campaign, Mamdani stated he would likely skip many traditional parades to focus instead on core governance and policy.
Mamdani skipped the city’s Columbus Day Parade (often associated with Italian-American heritage celebrations) in October 2025.

Mamdani skipped the Veterans Day parade. Instead, he went to a black Veterans Day event.
He led the city in enacting an emergency permitting rule restricting large new public gatherings on city parkland from June 11 to July 19, 2026, during the 250th anniversary events. It forced organizers to shift the public Times Square 250th anniversary ball drop to a limited, ticketed broadcast event.
