The confirmed death toll from two powerful earthquakes that hit Venezuela on Wednesday night doubled early Friday morning, according to the country’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez. She said at least 589 people were dead and 2,980 injured, as rescue teams raced to find more survivors amid more than 200 aftershocks.
Neighbors were helping each other dig through rubble to search for loved ones in cities and towns across northern Venezuela in the wake of the powerful back-to-back quakes
